Bud and Vicki Hogan's 1996 Appalachian Trail Journey

June 11
Tri-Corner Knob Shelter to Davenport Gap...............................................14.5 miles

Many "puds" today, mainly downs. We pushed to get through the park today, before dark. My right knee is starting to feel it. Once we got to the road it was 1 1/2 more miles down to the campground at Mountain Mama's. It felt like it was farther.

We had a good hamburger, then walked over to the camping area. Saw a 5 foot long black snake right where we wanted to set up camp. It saw us, too, and headed off rather quickly. We set up camp by the river, got the laundry done and took showers. We were finally clean and semi-dry. Vicki's wet boots were breaking in at last.
