Bud and Vicki Hogan's 1996 Appalachian Trail Journey

June 23
Beauty Spot Gap to Clyde Smith Shelter.......................................................13 miles

Early morning on Unaka Mountain-a beautiful pine forest with plenty of God-light coming through the fog. God-light? That is where streams of light penetrate the darkness of the forest, it is often accentuated by some early morning fog. That was the highlight of the day. We camped at Clyde Smith Shelter, actually, we camped behind the shelter in a rhododendron grove. This was the first time that Vicki made the water run. She said it was w-a-a-a-y down the hill. Vicki's comment, "I sure appreciated (and still do) Bud going the "extra mile" every day to get our water after a long day's hike."
