Rangitoto Island
8:15 am
Mike D
817 5811
Join Mike for an exploratory trip and panoramic views from Hauraki Gulf’s newest attraction (600 years old!). With a good knowledge of botany and endless energy, a day out with Mike is always one to remember. Please support DOC’s efforts to make Rangitoto a pest free island by checking for stowaways of rats, mice & ants that can harm native wildlife by checking your shoes & bags for seeds and dirt before departing. Poison has been dropped on the island. Please do not touch the bait. Please ring leader if intending to meet at either the City or Devonport wharfs. Boat fare $25 adult, $12.50 child, seniors $22.50.

18 Oct
Wainamu – Bethells area
8:30 am
Ralph L
09 426 0327
A mystery circuit in the Lake Wainamu – Bethells area. It is still a bit of a mystery to the leader as well at the moment but there are a few options including a look at what Eric referred to as Plum Pudding before continuing on to do a circuit. The day will be about a 6.5hr circuit with a section of moderate/hard difficulty with hills and mud and it might be a good idea to bring your leggings and a long sleeve top for one section. Note that due to concerns about the spreading of Kauri Die Back disease this trip replaces the Across Northern Waitakere trip proposed in the 6 month calendar.
20 Oct
Club Evening
7:30 PM at Kelston Community Centre
Ian Song and Cathy Gong will entertain us with Pictures and tales of recent travels to Everest Base Camp.

Friday
Christine M

This trip is already full, but if you are interested contact the leader to be put on the waiting list.
Tūhua or Mayor Island is a spectacular volcanic island with great views from the highy rim that surrounds the interior of the island.
25 Oct
Cascades / Long Road / Robinson Ridge
8:30 am
Dave W
828 3274
The club hasn’t been on some of these tracks for a while. Two good hills to keep one honest and the Simla Track. Stream crossings, views and a challenge or two, but remember, this is a “normal” day, so don’t be afraid. At least 6 hours on the trail.

Tramping Trips

Day tramping trips are held almost every Sunday, meeting outside the Post Shop in Glenmall Place, Glen Eden (map, map2) and leaving at 8:30 am, unless otherwise stated in the programme.

Introductory tramping trips are held approximately once a month, leaving at 9:30 am from outside the Post Shop in Glenmall Place, Glen Eden (map, map2) unless otherwise stated in the monthly magazine.

A weekend tramping trip is organized approximately every 4-6 weeks. Meeting arrangements are communicated by the trip leader to participants. Weekend trips do not leave from Glenmall Place.

What to bring on a day tramping trip

  • Lunch (including drink) & extra eats (scroggin) to nibble at during the day.
  • Waterproof raincoat or parka.
  • Woollen/polarfleece jersey/bushshirt and a hat of some kind.
  • Footwear; boots are desirable though not essential. Sandshoes or training shoes will do for a start. A plastic bag for dirty footwear is handy as many drivers do not appreciate muddy boots in their car.
  • A plastic bag or pack liner. As no pack is waterproof, a plastic bag will keep the contents dry. It is a good idea to pack clothing in a plastic bag as well.
  • Carry your own medication for any allergies i.e asthma etc., and if you have a medical condition please let the leader know.

What to bring on a weekend tramp

Contact the trip leader to find out what you need to take with you, as the equipment may differ depending on the trip.
