Another feather in our Groups cap is that a number of Group members joined the ranks of the District / Area - The late Gerrit Witte (father of 3 Springbok Scouts namely Jeffrey Witte) , ex Group Chairman, became Area Arnold; ; and Commissioner; Sheila Laing (mother of Springbok Scout Peter) , ex Pack Scouter of the Group, became AAC for Cub Programme; Theo Rijs, ex Troop Scouter, was (among other things) Regional Commissioner prior to his transfer to Cape Town; Ernie Pike (father of Springbok Scouts Sean and Christopher), ex Group Chairman, is currently Area Commissioner. Wayne Roberts, ex District Commisioner and scout, has returned to take up the position as Troop Scouter once again.

We currently have 2 patrols,( Kudu and Rhino) with about 7 scouts in each patrol. Over the past few years, we suffered from a major decline in the number of Scouts as the senior scouts completed their scouting careers, but after a period of consolidation we pride ourselves in the fact that we have once again built up the number of scouts to health levels. Our next main goals is to improve the level of advancement of our scouts and for both of the Patrol Leaders (PL's) have attended the Patrol Leaders Training Unit (PLTU).  1st Cotswold Scout Troop has always been one of the strongest scout troops in the Cape Eastern Area, and are a threat to any other troop that enters any scouting competition.  Our scarf colours are black with two white stripes running down the sides, hence our nickname "The Pirates".
