On May 15, 1998, Pack 365 held their Blue & Gold Banquet. During the banquet, 90 Scouts advanded in rank. The following Ceremony was used for their advancement.

Tiger Ceremony

Akela: The moon is full, just as it was long ago on that night in the jungle when Mowgli first joined the Seeonee wolf pack. It has been many years since Mowgli returned from living with the wolves. After he returned, he taught us many of the lessons he learned while in the jungle. The most important was that the strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the wolf. That is why we are here tonight in this council ring. Tonight we have many young boys who have earned their tiger patches. So let us begin. Will the Tiger Cubs of Den 8, Den 9, and Den 10, Please come forward and Prepare to become a part of the Pack.

Akela: First, to earn your tiger patch, you boys have learned the Tiger Cub promise. Are you boys ready to make that promise again in front of your parents, these other tiger cubs, and the rest of the pack?

(Akela shakes head in yes motion. Boys should also shake their heads yes.)

Shere Khan: These boys are tiger cubs! The wolves have no business with them!

Akela: Shere Khan! The Evil One! Mowgli knew you in the jungle as an evil tiger. And you tried to catch him whenever you could.

Shere Khan: These boys are tiger cubs! I will be the one to teach them!

Akela: Silence, Shere Khan! Even among the tigers you are scorned because of your evil ways. Only the most disgraceful of tigers hunt for man cubs as you do. But we know the one thing that you fear the most, FIRE. And the reason you fear fire so much is that all your evil cannot stand against the light of one small flame. I will prove to you that each of these tiger cubs have already chosen to walk the path of the Flame, the path of truth and light. I will prove to you that each of these boys knows that your dark path is evil.

Akela: Tigers Cubs, I have here the tiger badges that each of you have earned! Do you want to accept these badges, and promise to walk in the light? Or do you want to leave us now and go learn the wicked ways of Shere Khan, the evil tiger?

(After the boy has answered...)

Akela: Then make the Cub Scout sign and repeat the Tiger Cub Promise with me.

ALL: I promise to love God, my family, and to learn about the world.

Akela: Shere Khan would teach you boys to have empty minds and to have no concern about others. So that he will know that you already know better than that, I want each of you boys to again make the Tiger Cub sign an repeat the Tiger Motto with me.

ALL: Search, discover, share.

Akela: You have chosen well young tigers. So that Shere Khan can see the wisdom and truth that already has begun to grow in your young hearts, as I call your Name Please come forward to light one of these small flames, receive your tiger patch, and cross the bridge to begin your journey onto the Wolf Trail.

Remember, All of you, that your goal as a Cub Scout is to reach The Arrow of Light, which will point you in the Direction of the Eagle.

Congratulations.

Akela: NOW! Be gone Shere Khan the evil one! These boys know better than to follow you. Pack 365! These tiger cubs have chosen well. Over the years we hope that the flame they have planted tonight will thrive and grow into blazing Arrows of Light. So to encourage these young tigers and to send Shere Khan on his way, let's give a good loud tiger growl.

(Akela leads pack in tiger growl.)

Wolf Ceremony

Akela: The Indians believed in animal spirits. These spirits helped the Indians and gave them special powers. It was good to have the strength from many animal spirits. But, each Indian also had a main spirit. The Indian would not reveal who his guardian spirit was unless he was near death.

One advantage to spending time alone in the wilderness, is that you might meet your spirit animal. And, to meet your spirit animal is to make your life more complete. An Indian might be canoeing alone across a lake, when he spies a wolf on the shore. And as the wolf looks into his eyes, he'll just know, that 's his spirit animal. Of course you can only meet your spirit animal when you're alone.

The wolf gives us two strengths: wisdom and bravery. The wolf is one of the smartest animals in the woods. This wisdom will serve our braves well. The wolf is also very loyal to the pack. This helps to protect the Wolf and the Pack. The Pack is stronger because of the Wolf and the Wolf is stronger because of the Pack.

We have Many cubs who have earned the mark of the wolf? They have learned how to handle tools and how to display the flag; they know how be healthy and safe. They have learned to serve in the community and to conserve energy. They are physically active and like to read. They have fun with their families and have collected useful and beautiful things. They obey our country's laws and worship God.

Tonight I am also honored to present the Wolf Cubs with Gold & Silver Arrow Points. These scouts have continued on the Wolf Trail earning Wolf Arrow Points. A Wolf earns a Gold & Silver Arrow Point for completing elective Arrow Point activities along the Wolf Trail. Our Scouts have been working very hard this year So I now call them to the Council Ring.

Will the Following Wolves Dens, please come forward so I may award you with the honors you have earned.

Den 1:
Den 3:
Den 7:

As I call your Name Please come forward to receive the awards of a Job Well Done. In the Indian tradition you will also receive the mark of the Wolf, a RED mark, symbolizing strength and valor. [Mark each boy with RED face paint.] Then you will cross the bridge ending your journey on the Wolf Trail to take your first step onto the Bear Trail. Be Strong and continue on this path which will lead you to your Arrow of Light.

These boys deserve a cheer for their hard work. What could be more appropriate than a wolf howl?

Bear Ceremony

Akela: One day in 1909 an American businessman named William Boyce was having trouble finding his way in the London fog. As he stood on the street, a young boy approached him and asked if he could help. Mr. Boyce told him the address he was looking for, and the boy led him to his destination. When Mr. Boyce attempted to give him a tip for his help, the boy said, "No thank you sir, I'm a Scout and Scouts do not accept rewards for doing good turns." This meeting inspired Mr. Boyce to form the Boys Scouts of America.

The slogan of the Boys Scouts to this day is "Do a good turn daily." And, as Cub Scouts, we say in our promise that we will help other people. A very important part of the Cub Scout program is the advancement of the boys as they work to be good Cub Scouts. We recognize the Cub Scouts in our pack in honor of the unknown scout in England.

I know the pride that you have in completing the Bear requirements is the same pride that was heard in the voice of the unknown Scout so long ago when he said, "I'm a Scout." And, with your Bear badge, you move closer to that day when you too will be able to make the same claim.

I too am filled with pride, for I will not only be presenting you with your Bear badges, many of you will also be receiving Gold & Silver Arrow Points. These scouts have completed many of the elective activities along the Bear Trail to earn the Arrow Points.

Will The Scouts of Den 2 and Den 4 please come forward to receive your Bear badges and arrow points which you have earned.

You have completed all the requirements for your Bear badge and have moved along the Cub Scout trail. As I call your name, please come forward and receive now the mark of the Bear, a TURQUOISE mark, symbolizing bravery and courage. You will then receive the Bear badge and Arrow Points from you Den leader and Cross the bridge to continue on the path toward your Arrow of light.

Would everyone please join me in a Big Bear Roar to show these Scouts that we appreciate their hard work.

Webelos Ceremony

Akela: In fourth and fifth grade, Cub Scouts are brought into the tribe of Webelos. Webelos stands for `we'll be loyal scouts'. In the tribe of Webelos, boys prepare themselves for Boy Scouting. Webelos work on 20 different activity badges from five skill groups: physical, mental, outdoors, community, and technical skills. After three months in the Webelos Den, earning three activity pins and learning about Boy Scout ways, they have completed all the requirements for the Webelos badge.

There are Cub Scouts among us tonight who have earned their Webelos Badge. Would the Webelos from Den 5 please come forward to be recognized and honored by the Pack.

You have completed all the requirements for your Webelos badge, have moved along the Cub Scout trail and have earned a place in the Webelos Tribe. Receive now the mark of the Webelos Tribe, a BLUE mark, symbolizing vigilance, perseverance and justice.

Many of our Webelos will be receiving an additional recognition. Seven (7) of our Scouts have earned the Compass Emblem and three (3) have earned compass points. To earn the compass, a Webelos Scout has to earn his Webelos badge and four additional activity badges -- a total of seven activity badges. Once the compass has been earned, besides working on the Arrow of Light; the boy can work on earning compass points. He can earn one gold compass point for each four activity badges. To fill his compass a boy needs to earn nineteen of the available 20 activity badges.

It is my pleasure to Congratulate each one of you on earning your Webelos badge and the many other awards that you are receiving. Scouts, as I call your name please come forward to receive the mark of the Webelos, your awards and then you may cross over the bridge and begin the your final journey as Cub Scouts to the Arrow of Light.

Everyone please join me in giving these Scouts a round of Applause!
