Karlsruhe (Germany)

I visited Karlsruhe October 1. 1997. Karlsruhe is famous in Europe for his public-transport-network, they run with streetcars on railway-track. So it's not impossible for anyone who is waiting for a tramway-car, a train is passing by at 100 MpH (150KmH) or more using the same track.

Karlsruhe Hbf (main station).
  • 5 huge sheds keep passengers and luggage dry.
  • Two 103's are waiting for departure
  • Karlsruhe Hbf
  • A streetcar, line S3, on train-tracks is approching the platforms.
  • Karlsruhe Hbf
  • The 103 121-0 is going to another track to pickup a train
  • Another car of the S3 is entering the main station
  • Karlsruhe Oberaustrasze
  • An interesting point : the lines S4 and S5 do split up here.
  • The 803 is on line S5 going into the city and further to Woerth.
  • The platform is used in both directions.
  • On the right side is the other platform for the S4.
  • Karlsruhe Oberaustrasze
  • On the line S4 was something special, two coupled 16 wheelers and the white one is one out of the series 845-848.
  • Karlsruhe Oberaustrasze
  • The serie 846-848 has a bistro, kitchen, toilets aboard and special panorama-windows in the middle part.
