ay, it's just 190+ days to ORD, and it's a good thing i presume,:),let's just say that i can't wait, altho i'd definitely feel nostalgic abt NS later in life...anyway, i guess everyone's in that last burst stage now, prob have no time to read any philosph
cal ramblings, much less think abt them...shall leave them till later...haha...:)Go for it pple...the last few hurdles right?...sweat not yeah?....it'll work out...damm...really can't wait for the next BIG B12 gathering...just had to say it again....

Hey, way to go HY! =) Yup, train hard and I'm sure you'll make it! 9:14 is really no problem as long as you train hard... In my course, 1st was this big (really big, maybe heavier than HY) guy who got 8:17... I was 4th but FAR behind... I dunno abt uphill
power runs cos they seem to help only in the last 200m.. Try running Macritchie from carpark and back in 20 min and you're definitely there already =)

Last I heard a silver's $100 and gold's $200, so even if you can't get gold there's no point giving him $100 is there? Tell him to settle for $50 :) Of course, getting it yourself's probably better. Actually it's quite possible, in my unit last time the c
azy OC made gold the minimum ( yes, it's stupid ) standard and forced all those who couldn't to train and retake, train and retake, and in the end my friends all got gold ( pratically), even those who normal run like 10.20 who most people ( including them
elves ) thought had no hope. And some of them are the large type too. On the other hand our gold is only 9.45, but you get the point.....hmm half a minute really makes a big difference below 10, but since we're trying to be supportive here..... Good luck
ut no need to eat your beret if you don't make it, just settle for ORD.

Now that's something much more difficult to achieve than knowledge-improvement (for exams). That's my man, Howie! Now keep that money for your own, and give us a treat when u get your gold, hehheh.
Perhaps I'm the only other add-15-kg-person around, maybe more than 15 kg. So I perfectly understand how difficult it is for you, Howie.
Sorrie Jason, for neglecting your bday....how I wish I can put all the blame on this stupid EXAMS, but well, I guess it just slipped my mind. Anyway, HAPPY BELATED!

ha...guess moderation's always the preferred mode of action for Wen? I'm pretty okay with moderation..esp for an army guy.....u dun want to be tooo hardworking in NS...especially if there's nothing to piah for...anyway..one thing that i've definitely got
o work for is my IPPT...to the lungless HQ , Alvin and prob Songhai, 2.4km in 9:14mins is prob not much of a problem....but add like 15 more kg to ur frame...and I'd figure u'd experience sluggish feet like me...so far...i've made it 10mins flat...got 45
more secs to shave by the end of this month...but why am i so concerned abt this is coz one of my platoonmates told me in my face that i'd never make it and there's really no use trying...in fact he asked me if i wanted to pay him half of the monetary awa
d for a gold in IPPT so that he'd help me run and then later exchange the no. tags with me...no way...no way am i gonna part with me $100 to give to that scum...in fact i made a $50 bet with him that i'd make it....9:14, without pushing or any form of ass
stance....i've gotta do it...otherwise i'm really not fit to don my red beret....and i want him to eat his silly words on the day i make 9:14...only thing is...i'm really dying now with uphill power runs....
arrgh....
anyway...hope u guys get better luck in ur exams...
all the best !

then the OC uttered..."who's the course IC? is this what u practice back in ur unit?" Online shopping...mebbe I can get a cheap discman online since I'm moving to Eusoff hall (assuming they actually feel like giving me the keys.) Saw the ad for $70 sony discmans at Electric city but apparently there were hordes of people who also realised
t was a good deal so it's a disappointed me who's typing this. The salesman tried to console me with "It was an old model, they were just trying to clear stock" but that's just because I looked like I was gonna burst embarrassingly into tears right there.

% of the students got full marks. Don't think you can get that many pple scoring full marks even in primary school. The next test will be tough to even out the curve : (

Hello...
I just got back from school and read Alvin's message. It's just interesting (for me) that this issue happened to come up. I'm in this thing called EARS and it's a counselling service/crisis hotline for the Cornell Community. We have training sessions ever
week and just last week, we had this panel come in to talk to us -- they were people from one of the support groups on campus for the "queer community" (as they are called -- it's not meant to be derogatory or anything... apparently, according to them, i
's just a convenient term that is used, cause there are people who are lesbians/ gay/ bisexual/ transsexual/ bicurious and all sorts of classes, so it's just easier to say "queer")
anyway, they were just telling us about their experiences, especially during the time when they were still questioning and had yet to come out. It was supposed to give us a better understanding, so that we are more able to counsel people next time. I don'
know, but it was rather amazing to me, to see them so able to be open and talk about it, and that they had really come to terms with who they are and they were really "at peace with themselves" (it's a very cliched expression, but for the lack of a bette
one, I'll use it). I dunno... I guess I actually kind of admire them for being able to be comfortable with who they are with..
I don't think I've ever had any strong prejudice against people who aren't heterosexual, it's just that I've never actually had someone talk to me so openly about it and I just thought it was quite cool lor... And I actually know one of them -- she's my c
assmate for a government course. I don't talk to her except for saying Hi cause she seems a little on the quiet side in class, but.. I dunno.. it's just something that happened in my life (that I consider to be significant.. as you can see, my life over h
re doesn't consist of very much, so I consider this sort of little experiences here and there rather significant)
am I rambling? oh well.. i guess I am. Nevermind.. just wanted to share it with you people. I think that these are good experiences.

It was great to meet a bunch of pple last Sat, altho the timing was somewat unusual.. but it did leave us with an un-precedented [correct spelling?] amount of "stoning" time =)... tt is since we left JC of course. Next to the Army, JC was probably THE mos

Amazing how much reminiscing and thinking you can do, when you're trying to distract yourself from other things. Been thinking of the times that I have been living these twenty years, from my childhood, in Brunei. Having Roti Prata for breakfast everyday,
and sitting on my parents' laps in the Chinese Restaurant a family friend ran over there. Then my Primary school, of the day I finished 5 bowls of rice with tomato sauce. Just because I hated the fish she kept on wanting to feed me. I refused to eat any o
the dishes.. yup.. just rice and tomato sauce
Then of course, me and my sis in Pre-primary, learning my Chinese name. It took 6 whole months to get me to write it properly. Having rest periods where you're supposed to take out your towel, lie on the floor, and take a nap. All part of the curriculum. hey should extend that all the way to tertiary education.
ACPS. Where I probably got the AC look many people say I have. I have a VS look, a Hwa Chong look, a Dunman look, an AC look. No one ever believes I'm from RI. That was a memorable time. Chatek at recess. Anyone still can play the game? Soccer after schoo at the Fort Canning cemetery. The big huge April Fools joke that the GEP teachers played on the entire Primary 6 GEP cohort. Yah. Chinese remedial lessons with that big, huge gangster looking Chinese teacher. He always had a look that shushed the class. aking my relief teacher cry. Ooops. Nah. dun believe in retribution.
Secondary school. RI. Moor House. Yeah!. The best. Drama festes, soccer, AD&D, watching Hong Wen hang Jiaren from the railing. That was quite a feat. Boarding House and the terrible fate of living on the same floor as Winggit and Xueyuan. Practical jokes very week. Watching Mr Lam flip Terry like a rag doll. Cards, Space Marines. My various weirdos for teachers. Still remember Aumeerally. "Sir, are there any pretty girls in Mauritius?" "Dunno if they're pretty, but they're all naked!". What a nut. Yong Jo g Shan, Janelle Ho, SMITH, Jillian Woon, Mr Hunky, Mr Phallic Symbol... zzzzing at the back of the class with Terry. and copying homework from 0700 to 0740 every morning.
JC. A school with girls in it
The short long holidays. Enlistment. Shaving the head. book-outs. POP. OCS. listening to each other gripe about how tough it all is. the sheer loneliness in camps somedays. Saying farewells to the overseas people. buddies. pals. men. medics. storemen. CSM
. Commissioning. The sword! The rank. the responsibilities. Work. 2PDF. The location was paradise. Except hell was inside. Exercises. Men problems. superiors. DOD!.
NUS. Work. concepts. NUS ODAC. Berkelah. Girl. Girls. Sleepless nights, sleepy days. Fevers, chills, and the sheer fire of life. Just keeps pushing you on to want to do more and more and more and more and more till you drop. Its tiring, but its fun.
Just reminisicing. Gdnite. Ok...but before u buy..u gotta know that a playstation is mainly for arcade games..rpgs(very good ones!) and those fighting games...so if u like racing...shooting..bashing etc...and u dabble in games like FF , u'd like the PS...not many PC games like D&D,
strategy games like C&C, Civilisation and those more brainy games are available...but since u already have a pc...
ok..next..the price....cheapest now..i last heard is abt $229...that's the standard package..one controller..ac power...playstation set(unmodified), AV cables..that's it... What i bought was a modded PS (abt $30 -$50 more) plus i asked for the 2000 series
..it's a faster cd-rom drive....that's abt another $50, bought another mem card (useful for rpg games) which is abt $18, and i bought an arcade joystick ($45) ,u can also buy the lightgun...in case u dun get an arcade stick..u'd prob need another controll
r to play with frds ($40) and i bought a better AC adaptor..a jumbo size one to prevent my TV and PS from blowing up..($60) The shopkeeper'd prob throw u 10 games free...but games are now so cheap anyway( cheapest i can find is $3 a disc)
so that all adds up to abt a total damage to ur pocket of abt $350++, $400 tops....so actually there are lotsa hidden costs...not to mention the constant expenditure on new games....
BUT...if u're a persistent no-lifer like me, and if u dun mind the huge initial investment costs..the PS can actually save ya lots of money...just stay at home or hostel and twiddle away...and at $3 per game...it's alot cheaper than a movie ticket or most
forms of entertainment u'd get in spore....hehe...:)
ok..abt games...i've got too many oredi...stacks of them...i'd prob give u some of me old titles...or just lend them to u permanently or something....i've been trying to have a garage sale of my PS games....but i've some games that I'd never sell nor give
..they're too great games...that's why i'm hooked and still will be...:)..hey if u do get a PS, we can like share stuff or have a duel or something...
some last notes...okok...before u start to rush out to buy the PS...consider this...the Playstation 2 is coming out late next year or so...with super super super graphics and video capabilities...better than any pc now...prob better than even the arcad
machines...and it's even going to be a DVD format...i estimate that the price'd prob be abt $1000 + when it comes out...gradually decreasing...thing is...the PS 2 is backward compatible..ie. u can play PS games on the PS 2...so...u just might wanna wait
lil....but all in all...if u're a serious gamer...i tell u...the PS is something u just gotta have....well...have fun! Comments:
Siwei - 09/20/99 08:14:16
yeah.. doesn't schoolwork havea nasty habit of catching up on you? It's damned irritating.. no sooner have I finished my week's assignment am I behind again..
nevermind... so how is everyone? To think that by the end of the acamdemic year, everyone will be back in school again.. just spread all over the darned world.. *sigh*...
nevermind.. I think i tend not to be in such a great mood at 4 am in the morning..
ergh!
Wen - 09/19/99 15:21:15
I don't believe it. I'm actually less free now than when I was in NS. Wish I could make it, but I can't. See you guys some other time, after this
stressful period is over, I hope.
Jeremy - 09/19/99 14:50:43
Glad to see so many people could make it down for "The Sixth Sense" on Sat.. yup.. had a good time I must say.. esp for the mulitiple ba gua people around.. Anyway, who wants to go down to RJC this Saturday morning?.. For a nice games session?.. We need a
ball.. I got both Bball and soccer ball.. Which want to we want?.. We need a Frisbee too.. who's got one?
Wen - 09/17/99 15:07:15
I confess. It was me, Jeremy. Twiddled on a string - How poetic. Can I strum sad love songs on your feelings too? "Romeo is bleeding..."
Sorry, I don't know what's it about you that's so
irresistably fun to make fun of. But that message
was quite explict, better be careful. Walk around
with a baseball bat at all times, tell people you're learning how to play. Anyway I'm not free on the 25th and incidentally drowning under a flood of work.
Alvin - 09/17/99 13:46:34
Yay! Games at RJ sounds fun =) Count me in if its on!
Jeremy - 09/17/99 09:36:59
Wouldn't mind... would like to in fact.. but gotta see if I'm free first.. yah.. anyways, sixth sense anyone??!?!?
Penny - 09/17/99 06:37:30
Just wondering, would any of you all be
interested in going back to RJ on a Saturday
afternoon or Sunday morning for a ball game? Say
either Sat 25th or Sun 26th? Then to Ghim Moh to
eat...
Siwei - 09/16/99 21:53:37
Oooh.. Sixth Sense is very nice. (or at least I think so). It's not like gory or anything but I think that it's really intriguing... a bit scary, cause there's a lot of suspense but not excessively so...
Jeremy - 09/16/99 16:13:47
Hi hi.. Howie suggested we watch Sixth Sense on Sat.. Just wanna ask.. who is interested to watch it at 3+ on Sat..prob at GV Plaza... Interested pls call me by Fri night.. erm.. probably leave a message on my voice mail 96786940, or call my home after 11
.. yah..or you..an email me.. sci90935@nus.edu.sg Pls do come...Yup.. Luv Jer
Jeremy - 09/14/99 16:30:29
That's it..This thing is going to my head.. I can't even count right now... shucks..
Joshua - 09/14/99 15:56:20
By the way Jeremy that's not two theories.
Joshua - 09/14/99 15:54:01
Fierce bodyguard type of doggie? Sounds like a big plump beagle, the kind u have in the window.
We can all take a look at the photo Jeremy took of the graffiti. Whoever did it oughta get a life. Well- Wen, wanna try your hand at this one? And when u find the malignant fiend you can organise a lynch mob. Or something. We'll make him write "I will not
vandalize Jeremy's lift door ever again cross my heart and hope to die so help me (whatever deity he worships-if any)" one million times. That'll teach 'im.
Jeremy - 09/14/99 15:51:25
Sighs... social events are always such a pain..
Alvin - 09/13/99 18:21:35
It's nice to see that's Weikai's definition of "fruitful nights" dosen't include a computer and modem anymore... Eh, introduce her to us can or not? =) Oh dear Jeremy, you got a BIG problem. I think it's definitely linked to this problem of yours, otherwi
e it's too coincidental already. My advice? Go get a nice fierce bodyguard type of doggie to protect you.... Probably not her bf but maybe one of his buddies? Even knows your address, probably found out from some NUS club records???
Jeremy - 09/13/99 16:15:46
I'm on... yah... If I can find the time and cash for it.. will try my best.. but no promises.. dun wanna disappoint again.. perhaps if got enough advance warning..
I do not play around with feelings ok.. Its my feelings that are being twiddled on a string... sigh.. I have no idea who's stalking me or who I could have offended at all.. let alone offended that bad.. Its not HER boyfriend lar.. I did some discrete chec
s.. yup.. maybe not so discrete.. not sure... sigh.. the message itself was weird it went
"#06-3587"
"Jeremy Ang"
"I © U"
"F*** U"
"John"
The © is the heart symbol... My family has 2 theories.. A girl, A girl's boyfriend or ex or interested party, or a gay... Either way, its freakish..
Wen - 09/13/99 09:48:23
Wah lau, Weikai, Zhong4 Se4 Qing1 You3. ( Correct or not Siwei? ) Next time tell us in advance and we'll plan the route for u to the meeting place.
It's not that we arranged to meet at my place for our convenience ( I had to cycle down from Jurong on the same day ) Just that we wanted to go north and that was sorta central. Hope you didn't mind
the choice of venue, if it's really very inconvenient u can suggest something different, it's okay for us. Well, maybe next time. Anyone else interested in cycling trips? Btw my sis recently organized a go-karting trip with her friends, a group of 15 at l
ast needed, takes abt most of one day, cost abt 50 or so Sing, racing in JB. Sounds fun? Just a thought. Maybe in the hols after the exams. Can do on just a Sun/sat, so army people can go also?
Weikai - 09/12/99 14:46:25
That sounds pretty serious to me...like some sort of a warning before strike...was your name specifically written on the lift door? Better be
careful Jer. Din get into trouble with anyone lately did you?
And erm, dunno if you guys think the same, but I thought it wasn't too nice to sort of drop hints tho not intentionally about Jer's prob. It's kinda personal and private....if I were him I
wouldn't want it broadcast as well. But if you guys take it in a friend-friend light, esp for Jer, then I suppose it's alright.
I apologise for my absence from the bike trip... considering I'll have to cycle from Marv's house to Wen's house without knowing the route at all (I'm a direction-moron!), I concluded that it was all too troublesome for me, taking into account
that I've to cycle back after that. Sorry for the last min back out guys...hope you all had fun. And Theresa sorrie to have caused you to take the
less comfortable bike. Anyway I spent that night quite fruitfully, with, erm, you know. =)
HQ - 09/12/99 14:42:17
mebbe it was for some other Jeremy.... or did he spell out your NRIC/Rank/Name/Address? just out of curiosity... wat exactly did he scrawl in your lift?
Jeremy - 09/12/99 12:40:20
Eh.. Serious lah.. I have some fellow mad enough to come down to my block with a marker and scrawl on the inner door of my lift... Made police report oredi.. but I have absolutely no idea who could be so mad... Name 'John' strike a chord with anyone?
Wen - 09/12/99 05:16:06
Why, Jeremy? Guilty? Sigh, told you not to play around with so many people's feelings, see lah?
Jeremy - 09/11/99 16:25:26
Any of you noticed anyone who might have the slightest reason to be mad at me?
Jeremy - 09/09/99 15:50:07
Arrgh.. you didn't have to post my problems on the conv you know.. ye 2... Anyway, well, yes.. I had a problem and I have decided to do the ethical thing.. yup.. its solved.. sortof.. I'm not going to post all the gory soppy details on the web.. yah.. I h
d a great trip to Berkelah.. Did lots and lots of swimming.. and am now utterly sunburnt... Yup...Thanks for the advice ppl..
Xinyan - 09/09/99 12:18:49
Hi, have a sad piece of news to share, those of you who know Elieen (of the rgs basketball fame) her mum just died. Phone or page me for info if you want to go to the wake ok?
Alvin - 09/09/99 09:25:07
I've got all 24 McDonald's Sesame Street bean buddies! =) Got This last one (Ernie) this morning
Siwei - 09/08/99 20:21:52
Hello people... I'm back in the conv!!!
yes.. it's been hell of a long while since I last write in here.. been so busy all the while that I never got down to it.. and obviously, in the three weeks before OBS, i didn't have internet access.
Anyway, I've got a nice tan from OBS Very proud of it, but I'm sure that one winter will be enough to reduce my complexion to a pasty white once again *sigh*
So how's everyone? I read all that stuff about Jeremy and I have no idea what the heck you guys are yakking about... can you all be a bit less cryptic? Josh said it was something about a girl.. but that's far as i get...
For people who don't know, my new address (yes, I've moved off campus)is "315 THurston Avenue Apt #2 Ithaca NY 14850 USA"
email stays the same
anyway.. Jason.. about the MS Netmeeting.. you can establish a direct connection -- you just need the person's IP address. It's a lot easier than logging onto some directory.
There is a function somewhere... under the "call" directory or something.. can't remember..
Shiyin - 09/07/99 15:12:24
i still dun understand
songhai - 09/06/99 14:28:39
i opened this page almost half an hour ago. now i understand what u guys are toking abt.
spare a thot for the less literate.
be more blatant.
thanx.
Wen - 09/06/99 05:52:31
Forgot to mention, the Sunday night bashing session was organized with you in mind. Due to some erroneous infomation ( read : Joshua ) we thought you were coming back Sunday morning. We regret and apologize for this big mistake ( ie Joshua aka The Big Mis
ake. )
Wen - 09/06/99 05:48:58
Hey! Welcome back HQ. Forgot to leave a message here before you logged on, just to say we're glad you're back. We missed you too, especially Germy.
He could use a dose ( BIG dose ) of cold hard
reality and who better to administer that than you. We tried, but the guy's hopeless. Maybe together we could beat some sense into him. Oh, BTW, bye Germy. Have a good trip. Don't worry,
separation makes the heart grow ...... distant.
theresa - 09/06/99 04:16:16
Hey HQ leave till thurs, does that mean it includes thursday? Anybody wanna go fantasy isalnd?? please go! Got coupons, where it'll be 9-10 bucks each. (compared to the usual 20) How about thursday? Then what about night cycling? Who else is interested ot
er than myself, wenyi, weikai, josh, penny, and the ever-hopeful jeremy?
Weikai - 09/06/99 02:29:50
While I was reading Wen's entry I was quite baffled....but now I sense a critical situation concerning our friend...Hmmm, anything I can help?
Is it unsuitable to share with us? If it is, then I'll welcome a phonecall if you ever need....but no matter what, hang in there Jeremy, you are never a quitter in my impression...
Welcome back HQ! I din know Qakley makes bags...how does it look like? Must show me....
HQ - 09/05/99 23:32:04
I'm BaCk... yet again.... in one piece... thankfully. Had a much more meaningful/pleasant Exercise compared to the ROC one [plus shorter too!] Bought myself an Oakley backpack =). cheap cheap... onli 400 baht. Overseas Army trips are the onli times when I
spend money extensively on myself... but I still hate the shopping and the bargaining. I just ain't a shopper. My bro just gave me the latest update on his life... FF8[English] & C&C Tiberian Sun. Will be working on those soon. Got Off till Thursday... am
sorrie I couldn't send Siwei off, am sorrie I couldn't make the Sunday nite bashing session... just touched down this morning noe... =)... Lastly, am glad beyond words to be back home. Anybody free to watch a movie tomolo?... Wat's there to watch anyway?<

Howie - 09/05/99 13:47:48

Harro! Just wondering if anyone of you all are
interested in going to London and some other
European country this christmas? Cos Suzhen is
intending to go there during her holidays, and
Jason has expressed interest. Erm, I guess this
probably won't be relevant to those in Singapore,
but maybe those overseas would like to mail me if
they're interested? Thanx.
One more thing, there's UKBound at Venom Monday
nite. Please go if you all can? Can contact me
for tickets.
Wen - 09/04/99 17:17:01
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't do it Jeremy! Where's
your pride? Your integrity? Don't be a bastard!
Hello? Hello? Wen to Germy? Hello? We're losing
him!Anyway, just to say, don't do it now. But you'll not listen, will ya. Some people have a death wish. Well, wish your O-rings all the best,

Weikai - 09/02/99 11:33:31
This thing finally works! The ADD function has been down for some time, probably due to some screw-ups in Geocities that I couldn't fix.
But thankfully, it's back.
I was going to ask you guys whether u will be interested in overnite cycling organised by NUS ODAC. It'll be from 10th to 11th of Sept, Fri to Sat. Route will be mainly around EAST area.
We were thinking of organising one ourselves but apparently there are some problems....so, gonna stick to the NUS one. And outsiders are welcome too, not confined to NUS students only.
So, erm, if you're interested, please mail or msg here, I'll try to make the arrangements, or maybe Jeremy can do that for us since he is in the EXCO
of NUS ODAC now. Thanx!
Joshua - 08/28/99 16:07:08
Who screamed? The person who went ARRRRGH An annonymous moment of existential angst. Annonmymous existential angst is NOT recognised. You have to state who you are before everyone else can A)ignore u thoroughly B)sympathise C)laugh heartlessly.
Alvin - 08/26/99 15:10:28
Scientists are always using dunno what formulas to prove that on this so and so, the gravitational force of the cosmos will pull earth apart and etc...etc...etc... BUT IT NEVER HAPPENS! Therefore, I have faith that whichever scientists used watever formul
to prove that earth has enuff nuclear warheads to disintegrate itself 7 times over are wrong too! Puny humans just dun have the ability to destroy the world (literally)
- 08/26/99 14:48:21
ARRRGGGHHHH
Wen - 08/23/99 16:32:22
Won't be sending Siwei off tommorow...and couldn't
get her on her home phone or handphone ( the wonders of modern technology.... you can reach
not-available messages all over the world on the move )so I hope she'll pop by here before she really goes. Well, we didn't get together as much as I'll have liked, and now it's goodbye already.
So, .... goodbye already. At least you'll have Jason to keep ya company, and soon Marvin to, that makes it 3 generations together at Cornell!
Hmm, maybe Joshua will arrive ( on time ) to tell ya goodbye from me, otherwise this is it for now I guess.
Chunda - 08/22/99 09:52:51
Frankly, I think the closest thing we can get to an armageddon right now is mass hysteria. And that can be really, really bad.
XF - 08/21/99 17:21:02
I feel the same way as HY....
we dun need somethign that wipes out the whole world instantly....
but bit by bit...sighzzzzzz.....
Jeremy - 08/21/99 15:34:12
HOWIE!!!.. I WANT THE GAME AND THE PLAYSTATION!!!!!!!!.. erm.. but gotta wait until I got free time first... shucks..
Howie - 08/21/99 11:03:17
anyone there reads newsgrps?....yeah yeah...prob have no time for them i suppose...well i just happen to belong to those who have lotsa time...with a pretty zobo life...so i went wandering into newsgrps...i found this newsgrp which centered on depression
mong teens...lotsa poignant entries..din realise that there were so many suicidal young pple out there...some profess to be regular "cutters" ie. they deliberately use razors, pens, knives to inflict pain on themselves...coz they cannot handle their depre
sion, and many others tell of tales of extreme self-loathing, inferiority complexes..etcetc...it's just a damn sad place...
anyway...for those FF8 fans..it's finally out...not too bad...but that's besides the point...
Howie - 08/21/99 02:57:43
hmm..doomsday...not too sure abt when it's coming, but i was just tinking, isn't doomsday slowly creeping onto us oredi? i mean u dun need some spectacular big bang and stuff like thta which wipes out the entire earth....u just need selective bashing at s
ecified times...to lull pple into a false sense of security....i mean look at recent stuff happening...india train crash, taiwan-china relations, turkey earthquake....i bet THOSE pple there ARE screaming armageddon....it's just that we are relatively safe
in our lil island of prosperity...
...it's like when all the proposed doomsday dates are over...then all seems calm,ok...but our armageddon could be war within the region...looking at the situation, we're within that kind of situation....we just need some kinda catalyst...then we'll die du
u tink so?....
Alan - 08/21/99 01:58:30
I meant, "when doomsday comes".
Alan - 08/21/99 01:57:19
I distinctly remember Weikai saying something about doing something to all the girls around him when doomsday came.
Weikai - 08/21/99 01:38:02
Erm, I think statistics have shown that there are enough nuclear warheads on Earth to destroy 70 Earths (as in, DESTROY). And that was like 3-4 years ago.
But anyway, don't think any of us is too hysterical over this doomsday thing. I'm not forsaking anything in expectance of doomsday. I
still believe that life has to go on. But then, it's no harm talking about it and all....it's sort of like a reflection kinda thing to remind us
of how much we have ruined the planet, and what we can do now to salvage (yes?no?). That's from a more scientific viewpoint. But anyway, I still believe we'll come to an end, maybe not now, maybe much later, but we will.
But I'm not the least affected by it. Probably the onli effect on me is to prompt me to do more of the things that I want to do (legally)...which is not too bad a thing afterall.
Joshua - 08/20/99 16:47:53
It's all there in Revelations. Armageddon and all that. I read more doomsday stuff on a regular basis than is healthy for me.
Alvin - 08/20/99 15:43:09
Oh dear, frankly I think all this doomsday stuff is a whole lot of baloney =) We're still young and have lots of time to live life to its fullest, so dun get hysterical over some false prophecies please.... Even if we launch every nuclear warhead on this
lanet, Earth will still be intact. Okay, probably noone's gonna be left alive but still, the planet's gonna always be there okay?
Weikai - 08/20/99 05:20:43
Yar loh! So wasted....I was lying on my bed preparing for doomsfall...but I fell asleep in the end. Har, no lar, just kidding, who'd do that
boliao stuff? But honestly, I must admit it was a little disappointing not to see the world end in a big ball of fire. Not that I want to die, maybe
cos I was half-expecting it but it didn't happen. Anyways there's another rumour date, somewhere in Sept, so, there's still hope (or no
hope?)!
Ho so you ordered ur pc online but how do you pay for it? Is it cheaper to order online? I was tempted to order stuffs online from singapore based online shops but still not totally convinced

Weikai, today is the 19th and it's not the end of the world yet. What happened? : )
I just bought my computer online yesterday night. First time doing online shopping. It's quite an experience.
Today is the last day of the international freshman orientation. Will be seeing the Americans tomorrow.
The weather here is getting colder and colder each day. Had to get up last night to put on more clothes before I get frozen.
Got to rush off for breakfast now. Tata.
HQ - 08/18/99 14:06:09
Once again, I'm off... as ridiculous as it seems. Now that I look back at the past 16 days I had in Singapore, have been quite a couch-potato... stuck at home not wanting to go out. To Wen, am sincerely sorry that I screwed up our oh-so-difficult-to-organ
se VF3 RV. Have to admit that my brother's playstation had a part to play too [the tipping factor] Will be back on 060999, in time to send Penny back, no? Next up would be Songhai going Australia, rite? See ya all in abt another 3 weeks time.
Jeremy - 08/17/99 16:22:14
I see the fun is just beginning.. South Korean?.. tsk tsk..
Weikai - 08/17/99 01:25:16
South Korean! That doesn't qualify as Ang Moh... so, does that mean anything?? Jason, that's a good start to a colourful and interesting life...hehheh....
Anyways, hope you have fun!

Hi all, I am in the Cornell Computer Lab now with lots of other Singaporeans. We made up almost 1/3 of the students here for the Pre-Orientation.
Cornell is beautiful!!! Mini waterfall, gorges... lots of places for me to take photos : ) Marvin must come next year to see.
I met a South Korean girl on the flight and we managed to get along well with one another. But don't worry, I wun bring an Ang Moh girlfriend back.
Oh, I met Suzhen at the San Francisco Airport. She was there to pick up the Berkeley freshman while I was on transit.
Yep, I got so many things to tell you guys that I cannot get organised. Will try to keep you guys updated whenever possible.

Hi all, thanks for the gathering last night. My last one before the millenium : )
Wen - 08/14/99 03:17:24
This is going to sound funny after Howie waxing
lyrical about the world ..... but I have a horribly swollen left foot! Ok, that's why I left early, so sorry that I couldn't stay and talk with
such a big bunch of us. So now you know - it's big
, it's red, it's infected, and meybe if I open my
heart to it it'll somehow look good to me. Erm,
just kidding, Howie. I know what you mean. I've
saw the best rainbow of my life during training,
and also the dolphins off Punggol last year when
we had bike training at Punggol. But usually I have my head down looking at the mud on the pair
of boots in front for hours on end, but that's just me.
Howie - 08/13/99 17:09:06
haven't written in here for awhile...so tempting to just write drivel here...some filler material...shall try not to kay?
went down to RJ wif jason today, glad to see that odac is kinda going full swing now...with a Gunung Tahan trip in sept, followed by Nepal trek in the year end...they really are getting along nicely...the current j1s are very poetically inclined...lotsa R
bert Frost poems in there...plus many of their own pieces...very nicely done CB cover and odac board too...
well..Jason's going off too...next up's Alvin...will miss their presence...can only wish them all the best..especially jason..who's going on sun..
i must be getting this weird army thing...coz for once in my training...i actually really enjoyed myself...it was this week...went out to sea on a motor powered rubber dinghy...i sat in front...and the way we sit is such that one foot is just brushing the
water....we were going to tekong, and i saw something really beautiful...along a looong stretch of reclaimed beach along tekong, there was this absolutely beautiful sun...just slowly setting....i admired it's glow from inside, a quiet fleeting smile in my
heart, amazed that i could actually do that...and the splash of the sea, the salty air...reminded me of canoeing expeditions....
just wanted everyone who think they've hit a plateau...and that life's gotten into a silly routine...that u can break that monotony...does not take much effort....just open ur eyes...ears..
and just look ard u...pple...the sun..but most imptly..the heart must be open to them...otherwise the sharpest eyes would be blind to such simple beauty in life....
take care pple...
Chunda - 08/13/99 15:02:55
Bad news... I'll be having range for the whole of Sunday, so I won't be able to send Jason off. Anyway, JASON, do take care and write back often! Mata aitaidesu! Auf wiedersehen! hou4 hui4 you3 qi1! Bon voyage!
Btw, I'm sure most of you read this review about "The Ring"-Jap horror flick today. It's really good... watch out for the second part too. A refreshing presentation of a cliched genre with pretty babes too. What more can you ask?
Shiyin - 08/12/99 05:00:55
Caving expedition?? where?? they go and explore caves ah??? so fun!!!!!
Jeremy - 08/12/99 02:56:27
Sorry.. not really free... but I went back for a while on Wed.. The J1s are training for Gunung Tahan Expedition.. They just came back from caving expedition over the national day weekend...

Yup. I will be going on Friday.
Just wondering if anyone wants to go back RJ on Friday (before dinner)?
Email me if you can make it.
Weikai - 08/11/99 12:41:57
Jason's Farewell Dinner!
Please meet at City Hall MRT this coming Friday, 6.15pm. We're eating at
Seah St Deli.
Jason, you must be there ok!
Jeremy - 08/11/99 12:06:47
So the Friday thing... How about it?
Weikai - 08/09/99 05:13:33
Oh I see, Alan....seems like you have been trying it out over the past year...overseas somemore....with whom?? I DO WONDER...heh heh heh
Alan - 08/09/99 02:15:16
Actually Weikai, Netmeeting works just fine in later versions. You need to use headphones to get rid of the echo effect, but the sound is ok. Can use for overseas also.
Weikai - 08/08/99 16:14:46
Oh ok now I get it...Microsoft Netmeeting. Actually me and Alan tried that quite some time ago, more than 1 year back. We were both using it
locally, and the quality was only satisfactory, with broken transmissions here and there. And one
drawback about this thing is that you need to connect to a microsoft server before you can NetMeet. Don't think they support direct connection (maybe they do now with newer versions)
. But the thing is, even when we tried it locally it wasn't good enough, don't think it'll be good for overseas communication. But since it's free it's worth a try anyway!
Jason - 08/08/99 15:53:34
oops. It's actually Microsoft NetMeeting not NetWorking. It's a internet telephony program. Dun know how it works yet. Can be downloaded at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/
Weikai - 08/08/99 12:51:35
How do I try? Any special software needed? Not sure exactly what Microsoft Networking actually is...though I think NUS intranet runs on that (does it?). But anyway, make me your guinea pig!
Jason - 08/08/99 10:22:13
Anyone free to try Microsoft Networking with me?
I am curious to find out how well it works.
- 08/08/99 04:14:47
Hmmm....seems to be an abundance of annoynmous
entries here..... which goon forgot his/her name??
Chunda - 08/08/99 03:25:09
I seemed to have misplaced my pager somewhere (hopefully not on an offshore island of S'pore) so in the meantime please refrain from paging to me. Arigatoo!

Penny - 08/07/99 15:53:38
Erm, I noe this is a leetle short notice, but if you all get this time, and are free tomorrow (sunday), meet at 2pm at East Coast Macs okie? Hope to see you all there.
Alvin - 08/06/99 14:39:51
WELCOME BACK HQ! Anyway, I think the political storm over Taiwan is much aorse than the natural typhoon type =) I wonder if SAF is getting ready to evac our camps there
Penny - 08/06/99 12:27:13
Hehe, I was just wondering if you all would be free this coming Sunday.. like Weikai said, maybe it's time for another outing. Then can welcome Huaquan home too. Erm, are you all interested in going to East Coast? Can go cycle/blade, erm, play ball maybe?
Then after that can go Parkway shopping! =) What say you all? Sunday afternoon?
Weikai - 08/05/99 12:21:01
My Email:weikai@pacific.net.sg
Yep welcome back Huaquan! You are one of those I really haven't haven't seen in dunno how long. Let's find one weekend and we'll all go out!
I know some people reading this are gonna say that this is so ironical...that it's so difficult to get me out usually and now I'm talking about going out. So, some clarification here:
Please forgive me when I don't turn up for anything planned on a weekday....I don't know how it is like in other facs, but in Engin year 2 now
work is really getting heavier. I end at 5 almost
everyday, and imagine having dinner at 6/7 at Holland V, I would reach home at 10 plus, which
will leave me too tired to do anything. And down here there is some work to be done almost everyday. Another thing is my parents....they get
quite unhappy when I go back late on a week day, especially when my next day starts at 9am.
But please still inform me of anything you all planned, but please forgive if I have to say 'NO'. I've made the mistake of not taking studies seriously in JC, and I don't want to make the same mistake in my last education hurdle.
And like I said, let's all go out one weekend, with Huaquan!
Jason - 08/05/99 03:25:02
Hallo Huaquan! Welcome back!!!
HQ - 08/05/99 02:25:19
I'm BACK... after a month of torture in Taiwan being bored to death and 'walked' to death . Infantry life really sux noe.... an experience that I would never wanna repeat again. The worst part of it was that the guy who was suppose to carry the 940 [signa
set] for me was down for 3/4 of the time... thus I myself had to lug that weight around climbing up and down after the OC.
Words cannot express how glad I am to be back home. Miss everything here... the constant weather [compared to the ever-typhoon-eminent-Taiwan], the clean environment, the familiar feel more than anything else... actually I came back on the 3rd morning...
ope to see ya pple soon.
Jeremy - 08/01/99 17:23:15
Well, I must say that Yvonne was the sole representative of our batch... but the response wasn't very good from other batches... according to her.. Ended up as a rockclimbing session..
Chunda - 07/31/99 14:32:14
That's strange... I was told the Rafflesians'Recall is postponed one week.
Jason - 07/29/99 01:30:30
I won't be there too. Got to "work". Going back office to look see look see : )
Jeremy - 07/28/99 17:40:35
Just a reminder to all of you.. Rafflesian's Recall is this Sat 31st Jul.. and the juniors have asked me to pass the message.... RJ rockwall at 10am onwards.... I and Josh will not be there... We got some scholarship thingy.. ok.. have fun..
Jeremy - 07/27/99 04:24:59
Goodness. 2 super long entries by HY and one from Songhai. A first I believe. I must say that I thought that Op Nos..(NOT Ops Nos) was a success.. Kudos to Jason... and well.. hopefully we'll have another one same time next year. I was a bit disappointed
hat Mr Tay didn't show up, but at least Miss Poon did. Maybe we could go his house for Christmas?... Any ideas Weikai. Well.. to those who are gone again,or soon to be.. and to those who are staying.. I love you ppl.
songhai - 07/26/99 12:25:29

howie - 07/25/99 17:47:06
hi pple...tho i was definitely zonked today...i was unabashedly high throughout...coz i really was glad to see all u pple again..especially yuihua, siew boon, ruth, vivien, duu wen and my most huggable weikai...:)...yup..when asked how was my sat, i'd talk
lots..basically abt how much i enjoyed meself...coz i tink we had a major stayover...first time in such a long while...makes Op Nos such a worthwhile event...pity it was a lil short this time...:)
Yes,for her in these words I so may,
Her beauty and grace in so many a way,
in words, they are not enough to say,
Upon many a lady have mine eyes laid,
But only in her eyes have I seen heaven made
I loveth her, as a man loveth his wife,
to toil and labour for her, this i promise all my life,
Already, I am so enraptured in such sweet bliss,
As one that can come only from my wandering miss,
Oh but like the beauty of a summer's day,
I fear...that one day this love will go away..
Oh how I love her...
howie - 07/23/99 16:42:46
hehe...funny that u should ask abt getting a playstation....but anyway...since i kinda own one..(weikai, songhai too by the way) i tot i'd help u along...hmmm...first thing's first...there's only ONE brand of Playstation in the market now i believe...and
t's by Sony.
