Everyone's been doing well?..) well...hope genki's the case for u pple, coz well...the approaching exams for u guys means u'd need to be in the prime of mental and physical health...go get them pple....is weikai gonna end up on the dean's list again?...we await with baited breath and m ltiply crossed fingers..... :)

can't say i had a great weekend...in fact i hardly had a weekend at all...currently in jurong camp on course...and hahaah...it's a demolitions course!! we learn how to systematically blow things up...which can be quite fun...well..thing is..the course is ine....but the pple well...pretty screwed up...I got confined on Sat...coz i am the course IC...and the damn OC had just issued us a sun confinement after our live firing session coz we din clean out his trash!!! So when he walked past in the corridor...w all damn du lan him and just kinda ignored him....even the senior specs and my own officer also snubbed him...

then the OC uttered..."who's the course IC? is this what u practice back in ur unit?" (hell...back in commando camp..we almost totally disregard all non-cdo officers!.... :) ) I replied no, saying we are supposed to greet the (damned) officer... well..i was issued a confinement...but after that..the OC also made lotsa sarcastic statements...making it like something personal...arrgh...got absolutely pissed off... wished i could hook up the various demo traps to his car...and hopefully blow him up too...:) so i spent sat picking weeds...yeah...got a chance to flex my gardening skills...we had a live-firing on sun, so that too was burnt... anyway, just felt a little down after the whole darn thing...vent it online...forgive me for this pple?...

well..hopefully i get a proper weekend the next round...and after all the darnded exams are over for u guys...(hey..tell us when ur exams are all over...was tinking of going to get a power craft licence soon...mebbe we can all rent some boat and just sail ard? Ha..I'll be the CAPTAIN..YEEA!!)let's just go out and party...for me an NSF, i'm on 24hrs standby to party...but only with u pple... :)

yeah.. it's not a real holiday.. it's only cause we don't get the public holidays off (it's really rather dumb cause during labour day, nothing operates but Cornell does). And then the university gives us the public holidays together at one shot and the m ke it back to back with the weekend, so that we have 4 days off at one shot.. but hey.. i'm not complaining.. better than having the one day holidays, which are really rather worthless -- can't go anywhere.. at least with 4 days, you can go and have a goo time in NYC or Toronto or something..

Anyways, don't think driving is a good idea. We need old birds for driving in m'sia. More experienced drivers, pple who know the route well, pple who can handle adverse circumstances (u never noe what can happen to you on a desolated m'sian highway).

But if timing is rite, something relatively cheap would be Thailand, or mebbe Indonesia (assuming they've stopped shooting E. By next year th y'll have *gasp* air-con chalets on Ubin, and all the other islands have various kinds of SAF ordnance on them, there's just nowhere to run to for a bit of good ol mother nature wif stinging insects and unpredictable weather anymore.

I just got back from school and read Alvin's message. It's just interesting (for me) that this issue happened to come up. I'm in this thing called EARS and it's a counselling service/crisis hotline for the Cornell Community. We have training sessions ever week and just last week, we had this panel come in to talk to us -- they were people from one of the support groups on campus for the "queer community" (as they are called -- it's not meant to be derogatory or anything... apparently, according to them, i 's just a convenient term that is used, cause there are people who are lesbians/ gay/ bisexual/ transsexual/ bicurious and all sorts of classes, so it's just easier to say "queer")
anyway, they were just telling us about their experiences, especially during the time when they were still questioning and had yet to come out. It was supposed to give us a better understanding, so that we are more able to counsel people next time. I don' know, but it was rather amazing to me, to see them so able to be open and talk about it, and that they had really come to terms with who they are and they were really "at peace with themselves" (it's a very cliched expression, but for the lack of a bette one, I'll use it). I dunno... I guess I actually kind of admire them for being able to be comfortable with who they are with..
I don't think I've ever had any strong prejudice against people who aren't heterosexual, it's just that I've never actually had someone talk to me so openly about it and I just thought it was quite cool lor... And I actually know one of them -- she's my c assmate for a government course. I don't talk to her except for saying Hi cause she seems a little on the quiet side in class, but.. I dunno.. it's just something that happened in my life (that I consider to be significant.. as you can see, my life over h re doesn't consist of very much, so I consider this sort of little experiences here and there rather significant)
am I rambling? oh well.. i guess I am. Nevermind.. just wanted to share it with you people. I think that these are good experiences.

wow...that many entries....it's been a real long week huh?... : ) glad to read all these posts...albeit some pretty long reminiscing...hehe jer...have no RI boarding experience whatsover...din make economical sense...but i wasn't as attached to school bac then as i was to RJ....i just flitted in and out of RI.....speaking abt reminscing...recently i was a "special guest"...ie. i tagged along to a friend's gathering....well...it was a small gathering..(thank goodness...i'd felt awkward enuff..) but there w s this J2 girl who had her prelims...so the conversation among us had shifted to JCspeak...and well..it was then and there that i had this unmistakebly ancient feeling abt myself....like it's been ages since i last heard a "school-esque" conversation....t o much army...it's been real quiet already....u noe jason...i really do kinda miss ya..? back then when u belonged to the "zobo" club...well could always take turns among us to organize outings....but now...everyone's busy...with life....with work...with ove(?)....not so much that it is a bad thing....but it's gonna be a lil harder for all of us to meet up,etc.etc. Yeah HQ...mebbe u're rite...i expound too much..? :) will see u guys today... :)

Okay... I admit it.... it was a big mistake from the very beginning, approximately 6 years ago when I bought my 1st computer. Haha Penny.. yes.. that time with Winggit and Xueyuan included the Great Shaving Cream Disaster. Reach for the doorknob to open the door, found shaving cream on my hand. Went to wash my hands, on turning the tap, found that the volume of shaving cream on y hands had inexplicitly increased. Washed my hands, cleaned the tap, went to wipe my hands on the towel. And it gets dirty again. It was a full hour of find the shaving cream spots. For me and Jonathan Seow and Terry. Life's never dull with those two aro nd.

I guess that means that when I die, I'll be wondering why the sky is rotating past my field of vision.. and then wondering why I'm looking at the world upside down.. then feeling someone pull my leg.. and then.. blam.. I'll be gone... hmm.. interesting.. thrill just before the end..

Errrrrrgh! I don't like shopping for shoes! I spent the whole day at Queensway. Peninsula, and Suntec but couldn't get anything I liked. Either didn't have my size or was a girl's design. =( I got myself a Navy blue EastPak for $59 and at the same time sa this NICE blue Gortex jacket selling for $275. Should I get it??? Then I must hope it rains more often in London so I can use it =) Send me off at the airport? Well... If you think I'm worth the effort loh... So honoured =) But I haven't goten my flight detailed yet so we can talk abt it next time! Oh, lucky for HQ you're no longer in PRC trining, or else you might have some stories to tell abt your bunk being on the top floor one moment and the ground floor the next. Won't be able to make it this weekend cos I got lessons to teach on Saturday... plus a Family thingy over at Pasir Ris over the the weekend... that is unless I skip the Family thing... Anyway Saturday is impossible cos work comes 1st. This is it... I'm coming to the last 2 weeks of my stint here in Sch of Arty and will be posted out to 21SA as of 111099, whereupon I will be feverishly preparing/training for the Training Evaluation next March. It was great to meet a bunch of pple last Sat, altho the timing was somewat unusual.. but it did leave us with an un-precedented [correct spelling?] amount of "stoning" time =)... tt is since we left JC of course. Next to the Army, JC was probably THE mos interactive period of my life [from which you can tell tt I'm not a very interactive person]. Army is very similar to JC... minus the freedom of course. You meet lots of pple [a much wider range of characters, with no less weirdos] the decisions you have to make just harder with age and freedom. Options increasing but time decreasing. It's times like this that I wished there was only one path to take, so that there can be no regrets. More often than not, the distinction between doing wat's right and wat's wrong comes into the picture, and the only thing standing between them is my own conscience. I'm beginning to sound like HY... expounding on some philosophical thingy... shall stop here. Nevermind if you didn't understand any of the above. Alvin! Amazing how much reminiscing and thinking you can do, when you're trying to distract yourself from other things. Been thinking of the times that I have been living these twenty years, from my childhood, in Brunei. Having Roti Prata for breakfast everyday, and sitting on my parents' laps in the Chinese Restaurant a family friend ran over there. Then my Primary school, of the day I finished 5 bowls of rice with tomato sauce. Just because I hated the fish she kept on wanting to feed me. I refused to eat any o the dishes.. yup.. just rice and tomato sauce

Then of course, me and my sis in Pre-primary, learning my Chinese name. It took 6 whole months to get me to write it properly. Having rest periods where you're supposed to take out your towel, lie on the floor, and take a nap. All part of the curriculum. hey should extend that all the way to tertiary education.

ACPS. Where I probably got the AC look many people say I have. I have a VS look, a Hwa Chong look, a Dunman look, an AC look. No one ever believes I'm from RI. That was a memorable time. Chatek at recess. Anyone still can play the game? Soccer after schoo at the Fort Canning cemetery. The big huge April Fools joke that the GEP teachers played on the entire Primary 6 GEP cohort. Yah. Chinese remedial lessons with that big, huge gangster looking Chinese teacher. He always had a look that shushed the class. aking my relief teacher cry. Ooops. Nah. dun believe in retribution.

Secondary school. RI. Moor House. Yeah!. The best. Drama festes, soccer, AD&D, watching Hong Wen hang Jiaren from the railing. That was quite a feat. Boarding House and the terrible fate of living on the same floor as Winggit and Xueyuan. Practical jokes very week. Watching Mr Lam flip Terry like a rag doll. Cards, Space Marines. My various weirdos for teachers. Still remember Aumeerally. "Sir, are there any pretty girls in Mauritius?" "Dunno if they're pretty, but they're all naked!". What a nut. Yong Jo g Shan, Janelle Ho, SMITH, Jillian Woon, Mr Hunky, Mr Phallic Symbol... zzzzing at the back of the class with Terry. and copying homework from 0700 to 0740 every morning.

JC. A school with girls in it . The first time that I'm ever forced to spend more than 1 hours a week in the same room and interacting with girls. goodness. what a system shock. Signing up for 5 ECAs and turning up for only one. BTC... passing littl notes around lecture theatres. Batu Puteh. Yvonne. studies. sleeping at the board. writing and reading conversations. running. pull-ups. soccer. rockclimbing. the Blue Oyster Club. Promos. NEPAL! J1s BTC. More studies. prelims, A's.

The short long holidays. Enlistment. Shaving the head. book-outs. POP. OCS. listening to each other gripe about how tough it all is. the sheer loneliness in camps somedays. Saying farewells to the overseas people. buddies. pals. men. medics. storemen. CSM . Commissioning. The sword! The rank. the responsibilities. Work. 2PDF. The location was paradise. Except hell was inside. Exercises. Men problems. superiors. DOD!.

NUS. Work. concepts. NUS ODAC. Berkelah. Girl. Girls. Sleepless nights, sleepy days. Fevers, chills, and the sheer fire of life. Just keeps pushing you on to want to do more and more and more and more and more till you drop. Its tiring, but its fun.

Erm, I think statistics have shown that there are enough nuclear warheads on Earth to destroy 70 Earths (as in, DESTROY). And that was like 3-4 years ago.
But anyway, don't think any of us is too hysterical over this doomsday thing. I'm not forsaking anything in expectance of doomsday. I still believe that life has to go on. But then, it's no harm talking about it and all....it's sort of like a reflection kinda thing to remind us of how much we have ruined the planet, and what we can do now to salvage (yes?no?). That's from a more scientific viewpoint. But anyway, I still believe we'll come to an end, maybe not now, maybe much later, but we will. But I'm not the least affected by it. Probably the onli effect on me is to prompt me to do more of the things that I want to do (legally)...which is not too bad a thing afterall.

Hi all, I am in the Cornell Computer Lab now with lots of other Singaporeans. We made up almost 1/3 of the students here for the Pre-Orientation.
Cornell is beautiful!!! Mini waterfall, gorges... lots of places for me to take photos : ) Marvin must come next year to see.
I met a South Korean girl on the flight and we managed to get along well with one another. But don't worry, I wun bring an Ang Moh girlfriend back.
Oh, I met Suzhen at the San Francisco Airport. She was there to pick up the Berkeley freshman while I was on transit.

went down to RJ wif jason today, glad to see that odac is kinda going full swing now...with a Gunung Tahan trip in sept, followed by Nepal trek in the year end...they really are getting along nicely...the current j1s are very poetically inclined...lotsa R bert Frost poems in there...plus many of their own pieces...very nicely done CB cover and odac board too...

i must be getting this weird army thing...coz for once in my training...i actually really enjoyed myself...it was this week...went out to sea on a motor powered rubber dinghy...i sat in front...and the way we sit is such that one foot is just brushing the water....we were going to tekong, and i saw something really beautiful...along a looong stretch of reclaimed beach along tekong, there was this absolutely beautiful sun...just slowly setting....i admired it's glow from inside, a quiet fleeting smile in my heart, amazed that i could actually do that...and the splash of the sea, the salty air...reminded me of canoeing expeditions....
just wanted everyone who think they've hit a plateau...and that life's gotten into a silly routine...that u can break that monotony...does not take much effort....just open ur eyes...ears.. and just look ard u...pple...the sun..but most imptly..the heart must be open to them...otherwise the sharpest eyes would be blind to such simple beauty in life.... take care pple...

Oh ok now I get it...Microsoft Netmeeting. Actually me and Alan tried that quite some time ago, more than 1 year back. We were both using it locally, and the quality was only satisfactory, with broken transmissions here and there. And one drawback about this thing is that you need to connect to a microsoft server before you can NetMeet. Don't think they support direct connection (maybe they do now with newer versions) . But the thing is, even when we tried it locally it wasn't good enough, don't think it'll be good for overseas communication. But since it's free it's worth a try anyway!

I know some people reading this are gonna say that this is so ironical...that it's so difficult to get me out usually and now I'm talking about going out. So, some clarification here:
Please forgive me when I don't turn up for anything planned on a weekday....I don't know how it is like in other facs, but in Engin year 2 now work is really getting heavier. I end at 5 almost everyday, and imagine having dinner at 6/7 at Holland V, I would reach home at 10 plus, which will leave me too tired to do anything. And down here there is some work to be done almost everyday. Another thing is my parents....they get quite unhappy when I go back late on a week day, especially when my next day starts at 9am.
But please still inform me of anything you all planned, but please forgive if I have to say 'NO'. I've made the mistake of not taking studies seriously in JC, and I don't want to make the same mistake in my last education hurdle.
And like I said, let's all go out one weekend, with Huaquan!

I'm BACK... after a month of torture in Taiwan being bored to death and 'walked' to death . Infantry life really sux noe.... an experience that I would never wanna repeat again. The worst part of it was that the guy who was suppose to carry the 940 [signa set] for me was down for 3/4 of the time... thus I myself had to lug that weight around climbing up and down after the OC. Words cannot express how glad I am to be back home. Miss everything here... the constant weather [compared to the ever-typhoon-eminent-Taiwan], the clean environment, the familiar feel more than anything else... actually I came back on the 3rd morning... ope to see ya pple soon.

Ok...but before u buy..u gotta know that a playstation is mainly for arcade games..rpgs(very good ones!) and those fighting games...so if u like racing...shooting..bashing etc...and u dabble in games like FF , u'd like the PS...not many PC games like D&D, strategy games like C&C, Civilisation and those more brainy games are available...but since u already have a pc...

ok..next..the price....cheapest now..i last heard is abt $229...that's the standard package..one controller..ac power...playstation set(unmodified), AV cables..that's it... What i bought was a modded PS (abt $30 -$50 more) plus i asked for the 2000 series ..it's a faster cd-rom drive....that's abt another $50, bought another mem card (useful for rpg games) which is abt $18, and i bought an arcade joystick ($45) ,u can also buy the lightgun...in case u dun get an arcade stick..u'd prob need another controll r to play with frds ($40) and i bought a better AC adaptor..a jumbo size one to prevent my TV and PS from blowing up..($60) The shopkeeper'd prob throw u 10 games free...but games are now so cheap anyway( cheapest i can find is $3 a disc) so that all adds up to abt a total damage to ur pocket of abt $350++, $400 tops....so actually there are lotsa hidden costs...not to mention the constant expenditure on new games.... BUT...if u're a persistent no-lifer like me, and if u dun mind the huge initial investment costs..the PS can actually save ya lots of money...just stay at home or hostel and twiddle away...and at $3 per game...it's alot cheaper than a movie ticket or most forms of entertainment u'd get in spore....hehe...:)

ok..abt games...i've got too many oredi...stacks of them...i'd prob give u some of me old titles...or just lend them to u permanently or something....i've been trying to have a garage sale of my PS games....but i've some games that I'd never sell nor give ..they're too great games...that's why i'm hooked and still will be...:)..hey if u do get a PS, we can like share stuff or have a duel or something...

some last notes...okok...before u start to rush out to buy the PS...consider this...the Playstation 2 is coming out late next year or so...with super super super graphics and video capabilities...better than any pc now...prob better than even the arcad machines...and it's even going to be a DVD format...i estimate that the price'd prob be abt $1000 + when it comes out...gradually decreasing...thing is...the PS 2 is backward compatible..ie. u can play PS games on the PS 2...so...u just might wanna wait lil....but all in all...if u're a serious gamer...i tell u...the PS is something u just gotta have....well...have fun!
