Hi all! Urgh, I'm dying from a work overload here... hope the rest of you are stil enjoying yourselves! =) Speaking of BTC, guess who I just met near my house? Joel Seow. Hehe, at least he still remembers me... he so free, came to London to check out the universities. Anyway, just wanted to ask some questions...
SONGHAI, do you still read conversations? And who's your GIRFRIEND??? (Hmm, I'm gossiping again.)
Xiufeng, will you be coming to London anytime soon? How's Holland? Have you been to this place called Edam? They have very nice cheese and windmills there!
And Weikai, how's work? Are you going to be back in Singapore soon? You said something bout going back for a few days?
Lastly, Happy Birthdays to both Xinyan and Siwei!

Uh-oh, need to clarify here: Xinyan I wasn't talking about you man... Just trying to impersonate DrM. I remember just awhile ago he blamed foreign media and culture polluting his people, resulting in rising crime rates etc. Just thought that it was funny, so mentioned it. No offence!
Jer, BTC sure sounds like how it used to be. Except that the place is different already. Mr Tay is leaving? Man...tho there is no cause to be sad, I do feel a tinge of sadness....do you guys?

Hello... Me and Wen got to BTC late, thanks to my lousy return flight time from Bangkok. So we had to take a taxi from Larkin.. Cost us a $140 ringgit. But then , we had great fun. It was like last year, first day climb Belumut. Next day had solo night, solo walk, rude awakening, medical evac. I was carried again and this time they made good stretchers, even had a foam mat to lie on., and they didn't drop me. But then, I think I would have died waiting for them to do all that. Yah.. we had funs talking to the J3s, J5s... and we're J6.. what old fudds. That's what Richard was to us you know... Oh.. well.. Mr Tay might be leaving at year end. The school's posting him out. A new teacher, Mr Shah, whom we saw might be taking over. Well.. dun really know the J1s that well.. so next year..sighs..

Speaking of defending the English Language, how can school kids learn proper English if it is not used in our newspapers? Just check out Today...(sorry Ruth, not talking about your articles lah. Especially not your FRONT PAGE one.)and of course The New Paper. Oh, and faculty members from the NUS English and Literature department are fairly regular contributers to various newspapers. Hey I finally managed to scan in my holiday pictures. Got 1 of Sywei and I each on the Eiffel Tower. So nice =) It was very windy and cold up there though... And didn't get to reach the very top cos of strong winds. The top of the Eiffel tower displaces by centimetres in strong winds and its considered abit unsafe. That's a Civil Engineer speaking =) The last photo was taken by Mandy when we went to Stratford, Shakespeare's birthplace. It's a nice shop opposite Shakespeare's childhood house. Got lots of other photos but shall not post too mny lah. I've got lots of very difficult tutorials to catth up with . Very headache. Byez!

I've put up some photos and videos from our outing on 13 Jan 2001, before I left for Australia. Finally get off my butt to put them up. Those who were present should remember, the night we played pool until the place closed. The pics and vids are under misc. I've also put up 2 photos from Op Nos 2, which I believe most of us should have.

Siwei you probably can see that Jason's entry somewhere below could display a triangular bracket without being recognised as HTML code right? Can't put the codes here cos they would be recognised as a triangular bracket (it's a vicious cycle), and you won't be able to see it. So the easiest way is to 'view source' of this page, scroll down to the part where Jason's entry is, and look at what the code should be.
Another way (that I use) is using Frontpage (or any webpublishing program for that matter). Type in the triangular bracket in the "normal view" window. Then go to the "html view" window, and there, the code is there, kindly provided by Frontpage. Hope this helps.

haha.. talking about skinny guys in weird poses.. I have that photo of you guys at the mokey bars (is that the same photo that you're talking about, Chunda?) =) Yeah... have it in the photo frame that we got for Op Nos in the first summer. That wooden frame from Ikea (??). Still sitting on my window sill.. and probably will be for a very long time to come. Right now, I think you guys still look pretty much like that (well.. those that I've seen recently, anyway..) I wonder what I will think whenI look back at that photo about 10 years down the road. Hmmm.. why's everyone suddenly getting into this nostalgic mood? =PP Hmm... another thing.. I"m using Netscape now, cause I'm in the school library. Why does this line go on forever and ever?? (as in why is there no text wrap?) Oh well.. maybe I'll have to press ENTER manually. Or maybe I won't... just to see what happens.. if anything screws up.. I"m sorry.. Weikai, you don't have to fix it.. we can leave it there as a monument of my stupidity.[grin] Hey.. another question... (oh.. I finally reached the end of the line.. well... that was one heck of a long line... ).. anyway.. as I was saying.. what's the html code that I should type in if I actually want the triangular grackets to appear, and not to be read by the computer as part of some html code itself? I always thought it was LT and GT, but somehow, that didn't seem to work... oh well.. I think I'm rambling.. and besides, I think I ought to go and study for a prelim. I was up till about 4+ am last night (or this morning) as Josh can probably testity.. and I got a reproachful "tsk-tsk" look from my french teacher this afternoon when I told her that I wasn't in class in the morning cause I overslept. Oh well.. not good.. especially since she made it a point to tell me to wake up fpr class on wednesday.. if anyone finds me awake at an uneartly hour on tuesday night (well.. tonight)... shoot me... . Hello all, an update on my rather exciting life at the moment. For those of you who were wondering how I survived with only $9 left in my POSB account, here's what happened. I applied for DBS internet banking right, and when I logged in, found out that I had this "secret" childhood account which my parents have been dutifully depositing money into, hahahaha. Anyway, I thought since I'm already 21, I should take charge of my own finances right? So I utilized it. That's a major deciding factor to why I'm not starving now.

Anyway, yeah. A few days ago, my parents decided that enough was enough and wanted to pack me off to Brunei to "learn the ropes of business" from this never-seen-before-cousin, who happened to be bloody rich, or so they tell me. I was thinking, what the heck, since I wasn't doing anything in S'pore anyway, so i agreed. Decided to finally earn my keep, which happens to be a miserable $500 a month (in my cousin's words, "you've got to start at the bottom"). But then the very next day, this programming assignment came along which promised to pay 10k, which I'm expected to work at till June, so I jumped at that chance. Brunei was supposed to be terribly boring, and my cousin (a female) was the sort who believed good girls should stay home after 8pm *shudder*. So. The Brunei thing will be postponed until sometime after June.

Anyway my cousin refused to let me off and I still have to help out at my cousin's younger brother (yet another never-seen-before-cousin)'s soy sauce factory/store. Wonder what I'll be doing. And then today this web programming assignment came up. So I'll be splitting my time among these few "jobs". Guess this is what they call karma. Slack for too long and you'll have jobs crashing down on you. Hope I'll be able to handle them all. Anyway, quite fun to be busy again. Not to mention that the childhood account thingy is depleting fast.

I dunno leh, Weikai, just wondering if that's one of the reasons why fewer people are writing. Probably not though.

Not a problem, Siwei. Dun worry about server space, my estimate is taking in account everyone uploading an equal volume. But not many people upload, so it's fine. Your total filesize comes up to only over 100+kb, probably still leaves us 49+mb on the server. No worries, keep uploading! We will love to see more pictures (even if we don't say so).
Hope you don't mind me changing your picture into a link. Anyone clicking on the link will open up a new window showing your picture. And you still use spaces in your filename despite what Jason said...tsk tsk tsk..harhar it's fine with IE users lar but Netscape user won't be able to view the pictures.
Your picture makes me hungry. The food, tho blurred, looks good man. Maybe because I have not been eating good food. It's not easy to survive in France without knowing French, is it?
Hmm Alvin were you saying that Penny is lazy and doesn't do her tutorials? Harhar let's see some defence from Chairman Yapp herself!
Xinyan, add entry should login right, so that we don't get graffiti. Not that we used to get it lar. Do you guys also think login to add entry is troublesome? Give me some feedback ok? I'm the public's man.
I don't believe it, you are going Brunei to work? I mean, for good? That's so cool. As a what? Anymore details for us?

Hihi... it's me again... Taking a break from writing my architecture class paper. Well.. actually it's more like trying to procrasinate... since I haven't ACTUALLY started writing it. Been staring at my book and at the assignment paper the whole time and trying to figure out how to write it.. gosh do I hate analytical papers... =( I can probably BS my way through it or something.. since it's only 750 words, but I don't want to do that. In any case, we were specifically told to be concise. Darn.. why did I ever take this class???
but then again, considering that it's already 4:35 am, I probably should really be getting started on it.. *sigh*
Anyway... since I was bored, I decided that to scan a picture in... which reminds me.. Jason.. I think i should return you your scanner soon... [sheepish grin]. Here's a pic of Alvin and me when we were in Paris. This was taken in some restaurant in "Quartier Latin" or the "Latin neighbourhood". Was quite funny... us trying to figure out what was on the menu. And the waitress was nice but not of great help where the menu was concerned. When we asked her to tell us in english what the various items were, she could only point to each one and say "meat... meat... vegetable.. vegetable.. "etc.. Oh well... But at least she's better than some other guy we had in a Pakistani restaurant. We asked him what some item on the menu was, and his reply was "We make nice.. you eat good..." (topped off with a BIG GRIN) (???) we gave up after a while.... =)

Anyway.. yeah.. hope I'm not taking up too much space on the server.. just thought it'd be nice to add something other than words, to the conv... if we're running out of space.... Weikai.. feel free to take the photos down or something..
okok.. time to really write the paper.. byeee.. =)

Does anyone read back on past conv? I do, from time to time, and I just did. Somehow it brought a tinge of sadness. It was so memorable, and the way we speak, it's just different already. Think it is quite impossible to relive those days. We have all moved on in life.
If you've got a lot of time, try to read the past entries from 1 thru 17. It will seem like a diary to you, and you will follow through our changes, our growth (or dwindling??), through these 3 years. Maybe you will feel the tinge of sadness I felt too.

Two quick points to note when uploading file, esp picture. Please delete all space in your filename, cos Netscape doesn't recognize space. If you are stuck in a situation where you only have Netscape and desperately want to see the picture, replace the space with %20.
2nd point(for the sake of Netscape users again) upload any pictures in *.jpg and not *.bmp cos Netscape doesn't recognize *.bmp format (unless there is something wrong with my Netscape). Alright, back to my *cool* UNIX environment again, sigh~

Hey those are really nice pics. Nice to see you guys meeting up, with such beautiful scenary as backdrop. Hmm I remember seeing Marvin's beatle look before this, but I've forgotten when. But it's pretty cool huh! Jason you remind me of my BMT days....harhar
Chunda I can't agree more with you. The part about expecting to be wowed by the dazzles of the place as shown in the media, or as magnified by travel agencies. After being here for a while, it feels like just another place. But yeah, getting a new experience is always good. Just don't expect too much from it, which I did.

Hey, cool pics...The truth is out about Marvin's Beatle look...=)Ermmm Xiufeng and Weikai, personally speaking, life overseas can be quite boring at times, especially if you're expecting to be dazzled by the sights and sounds as a visitor. (I know I was) Pretty soon I figured out that people get on with their lives pretty much the same way anybody anywhere else would and I also started to live in reality. Getting a new experience is always positive and in that sense I'm definitely thankful for it.Xiufeng, I do have to pity you on the internet part... it's tragic not having web access... =)

Have been about 1 month here already and gradually adapting to the culture and accent here. When I first came I had to strain my ears to catch what the Aussies were saying. Sydney is a pretty boring place, contrary to the image it is protraying. Unless you got lots of money to spare on shopping and exquisite seafood cuisine and cruises, you will run out of activities here very soon. Too bad I'm not into surfboarding, else this place would be my heaven. The Bondi beach is really nice. But beaches here are notorious for shark attacks. I'm still keeping myself out of the water as yet. =)
I suppose to really enjoy yourself in Sydney you will need company, which I quite lack. Slowly knowing more friends, but none comfortable enough to go out with during weekends. Sydney will be a romantic city by night, when you're with your partner, which again I lack.
My job is quite heavy, but at least I'm learning things. The operations of an express company is quite unique, thus I need to learn lots of things from scratch. But I started to get bored of it
Piece of advice if you intend to come to Sydney for holiday next time: don't stay more than 4 days here. It's THAT boring. It's weekend again tomorrow and I'm still thinking of where to go (without burning a hole in my pocket).
