And I don't think anyone is viewing this from France, right?
As for a ticket to Europe, I flew to London from NYC for $275 ($185 plus tax... how come tax can be so much is just beyond me...) but that was after Christmas lah.. so the price dropped...

Yes Weikai, guys in S'pore went to play pool with a girl in tow (me) today. It's quite fun, and crazy! I mean we played till 2 something in the morning and the cab fare back home cost me more than the 3 hour something pool game. And the place was nice, not sleazy as suaku me thought it would be. I actually sank a few balls, hahaha, though I'm sure I looked awkward doing it, especially the left hand supporting part.
We also heard about Haoyang's impressions of the girls in NTU ("she wore ah-soh dresses, and walked like an ah-soh. Too bad, coz she's quite chio."), Joshua's account of a taoist funeral ("The priests wanted us to pay an extra 6k to pull my grandmother out of a pool of blood! @$^$%^@%@!"), how Wenyi's thinking of designing websites so he can ketok poor old ignorant business men of their hard earned money, and why Jeremy looked so tired. Oh yeah, come to think of it now, why WAS Jeremy so tired at first? Can't quite remember. Oh yeah, and we met Teresa! Small world eh?
Anyway, who's in France right now? Xiufeng's in Holland right? Who's viewing this from France? And oh no, I better not go to strange websites from now on b4 coming here.... Is Esa's somebody's girlfriend? I tot someone said something about an Eta just now. Today. And it's 5 something in the morn now too!

Chunda, actually I think the stats thing isn't entirely accurate. For one, it doesn't log my visit. You can't see any Australia records there. The unknown ones are Jason and Penny I think.
So how much does an air ticket from UK to US cost? About S$200-300? How come so cheap? And er, btw who is Esa? Never heard before...
Guys when you add entries to the conv now, you won't have to use <br> to paragraph or go to next line already, this function is now inbuilt into conv. Just press enter to go to next line when adding entry, the exact same thing will appear in the conv. And just in case those who dunno still use <br>, the conv will automatically null the <br> tag, making it ineffective, so that you won't have extra line spacings coming out.

Weikai, fly to the US from London is not too expensive lor, I think it's like the same price for the US people to fly from one coast to another? Also depends on the season, like over Christmas really very expensive. Anyway, there are some people from the states who will be coming to London... Esa will be here in like 6 hours, staying at my place. And Suzhen will be coming too, this weekend. Oh well, it's finally the holidays for me!! (Hey Alvin, me going to skip school today to sleep...)

Yeah care for soldiers they should send some comfort women over here. Heh just kidding Exotic things, well, does visiting sex shops count? There are heaps of other things to do but most are quite costly. I am trying to save up for my end-of-attachment trip when I will try them all out. Been asking about skydiving, but think that'll cost a bomb.
Yes guys in Singapore, it's time for another bumming/pool session. C'mon man, make me envious. Take some photos and post them here as well.
Alvin, just wondering, how much does it cost for you guys to travel from UK to US? Isn't it like across half the globe or something? How come you people keep having the chance to do that!! Yeah you can sense my tinge of envy, but I'm simply just curious.
I added a visitor tracker to conv. You can see the stats of visitors by clicking on the graph icon all the way at the bottom of the conv (scroll down). But don't worry lar it's no invasion of privacy.

That's another lesson in Politics for every1 Oh yes, and I feel that you shouldn't have included those last couple of sentences about your politics readings... Makes the whole article sound like an advertisment for your politics module and spoils the whole mood of the article. Hey... I use Dictionary.com too! Jason you are crazy!! I have bought things over the net but never from overseas (as of now, nothing from outside Australia). Won't you be paying quite a fair share for the shipping? Somemore you bought CDs, the shipping cost may be like half the cost of the CD itself. Unless they provide free shipping? For me, the delivery can be frustrating sometimes too, cos they will deliver during office hours when I'm not at home, and they will leave a collection card for me to collect from the nearest Post Office. But their PO only open Mon-Fri, 9-5, which are exactly my working hours! So I had to take halfday off or something so that I can collect my parcel. Quite stupid....

Can't believe that I am only halfway through the semester. I felt it was like one whole semester already. Will be home soon... after another 63 horrible days. Can meet up with all of you (minus the summer school pple). It's so weird that I am seeing Sabrina and Youcong more often than I see Siwei and Marvin this semester.
I have a question for palm users, what're the stuff that you can do on it that you can't do on a normal organiser (other than playing games). I am not trying to be funny here, but I haven't really seen the true capabilities of a palm, always thought of it as just an electronic organiser only (oops, this coming from an EE). Paiseh man, once I start I cannot stop. Let me finish with this one last (promise) Palm post.
Chunda you may want to consider other handhelds running the Palm OS as well. Basically they can do the same thing software-wise, but they are different in terms of hardware.
The Handspring handhelds, which include the Visor Deluxe, Visor Platinum, Visor Prism, and the new superthin Visor Edge. They all have 8mb ram, while Platinum, Prism and Edge run on 33MHz Motorola Dragonball processors and Deluxe running on 16MHz only. Visor Prism has 16 bit colour display (IIIc is 8 bit only), while the rest are greyscale. All Visor handhelds do not have Flash ROM (I think), and they have the Springboard expansion port. You can buy springboard modules (can be memory, digital camera, mp3 player) as addons and expansions, but they are pretty costly. Visors are generally nicer looker than Palms but are bulkier
Then you have the TRGPro, which looks exactly like the Palm III series, but with a CF (Compact Flash) expansion port, mainly for extra memory. TRGPro isn't very commonly used.
You also have the Sony Clie, a slim and sleek handheld, but very high price. I don't know if it is released in US already, but the first launch of it is in Japan. It has expansion ports for Sony memory sticks, and a jog dial for easy menu navigation.
Lastly you have the IBM Workpad C3. It is an exact clone of the Palm Vx and some people even say it is manufactured by Palm Inc actually. It is appreciably cheaper, but apparently less troubleproof than the Vx.
The upcoming M500 and M505 sport 33Mhz processors and have 8meg RAM, and 4meg Flash ROM. M500 is greyscale and M505 is 16 bit colour. Both will have SD (Secure Digital) expansion ports for addons.
With regards to rechargeable or AAA batts, each has its own fans. AAA is good for travelling (cos u can get batts anytime no need to look for charging point), and lasts 2 mths. Rechargeable saves money, but lasts only a few weeks I think.
Ok lar that's all sorrie for so much info. Welcome to the world of handhelds.

Never mind Chunda this is going to be much shorter . Yeah Palm models usually become obsolete in about 2 years. The Vx was out only more than 1 yr ago, and now the M500 is supposed to replace it. So you may choose not to spend so much. But 'obsolete' in palm sense doesn't really mean it's unusable already, just that developers and peripheral manufacturers cater less to these models, that's all. I'm using a IIIe, that's WAYYY obsolete man, but it serves me well.
The IIIxe offer sounds good, but it's only USD20 less than M105...so..make a wise choice . The free shipping sure is attractive.
The VII...I think subscription is not cheap, and must consider if you will use the wireless services (students like us usually have no need for it). Won't want to buy a white elephant right? And Singapore does not cater for the wireless system that the Palm VII is using, thus you don't see VII on sale in Singapore. That'll probably be a small deciding factor cos you'll be in the US for the next 2-3 years anyway. Anyway my advice for the VII is: If you just want to use the Palm for notes taking, addresses, organiser, games and stuffs, don't get VII, not worth it. Hope it helps!

so paiseh ppl ... Weikai after this can we talk privately? I'm not so much influenced by the price factor but if a substantial investment, say above 250USD is going to get me sth. obselete in two years' time, I might as well get an entry model. Talking about IIIxe, check this tempting offer on amazon for free shipping too: anhttp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/electronics/B00004RC2D/tech-data/107-2026510-6200503d invest in a better one later.Surprising the model is not rechargable but it looks like a good time to buy espeically with the discounts for stock clearance. Then again what about VII, Weikai? Palm is giving a 100 USD rebate so basically it costs 299USD... i'm slightly worried about the subscription fees but any thoughts?

Ah, Palm stuffs, my favourite topic . Here's my opinion (based on assumption that you only need an entry level Palm with greyscale display and relatively inexpensive price):
Yeah the M105 is USD199, while M100 is USD149. A USD50 difference is only reasonable, as the only difference between the two is the ram. M100 has 2 mb RAM and M105 has 8mb. Other minor differences are that M105 comes bundled with MIK (Mobile Internet Kit) and the hotsync cradle (M100 comes only with a hotsync serial connector). The MIK probably isn't going to be useful unless you are rich enough to subscribe to mobile data services, plus you'll need a infrared handphone or wireless modem.

Many experienced palm users would prefer the IIIxe to M105. Altho IIIxe is deemed 'obsolete' already and M105 seems like the up and rising star, IIIxe beats M105 in various aspects.
1) IIIxe comes with 8mb RAM too, and it has Flash ROM. ROM (Read Only Memory) is where the vital applications and the OS (Operating System) are stored. Flash ROM means OS upgrades can be 'flashed' into the ROM, basically saying that IIIxe's OS is upgradeable. For M105, no flash ROM, no OS upgrades. Although M105 is equipped with Palm OS 3.5, OS4 is already bound to be released with the M500 series, and OS5 is in the process of development. So it depends on whether OS upgrade is important to you.
2) IIIxe has a much larger and more comfortable screen than M105. Since both screens operate at 160x160 pixels, M105 with a smaller size screen will mean higher-resolution cos the pixels are squeezed into a smaller area. Despite this, more people actually prefer the screen size of IIIxe, cos bigger usually means more comfortable to the eye.
3) Some people prefer the form factor of IIIxe to M105, saying M105 looks too toyish. But that is highly-subjective.
4) The only quality M105 has over the IIIxe is that it is a new model, thus future third party peripherals will probably be geared towards accomodating the structure and size/shape of the M100 series. The III series is to be phased out already, except for the IIIc. Also, buying a product of latest model is a better psychological satisfaction.
The only problem here is that it may be difficult to get the IIIxe now, though I believe most shops should still have some stock, especially in the US. If you decide to forgo the novelty for practicality and get the IIIxe, you will also gain on the low price of the IIIxe, as the phasing out will mean stores trying to clear their stock at lower prices.
If you are willing to spend a little more, the IIIc or Vx or M500 are quite worthwhile, and they won't be obsolete anytime soon. IIIc is the only mid-level colour device palm can offer other than the expensive M505, thus IIIc shouldn't be phased out soon. Vx should stay in the market for a little while more because of its slim form factor, but not for very long I reckon.
Ok sorry for this big chunk of what I've consumed from the many palm related sites, but I hope they will help. Always nice to see a new member into the palm family.

Hey wassup... Just came back from my NY/Boston... both places are pretty fun, made some new friends at the big apple hostel too... =) Siwei heard that you visit Boston pretty often but I'm kinda puzzled... I managed to cover all the touristy spots in Boston/Cambridge in one day so what do you actually do when you get there? Oh btw Harvard Square is really really nice right? I mean, the shops/restaurants are just outside campus and it's so cosy and liveable, it pretty much beats Philly or anywhere else anytime... =)Oh talking about Palm, I am thinking of getting one soon but can't exactly put up my mind on what to buy... how about m105? it's about 199.95 USD which is pretty much the cost of a m100. Experts pls share your opinion. thks!

It's SPRING BREAK !!!!!
I'm soooo glad... I've been half-sinking half-swimming for the most part of the past three weeks.. it's good to have a break from work and for me to get my life back on track again.. *deep breath*... =) It's partly the fault of dance, I think... (sad to say... *sigh*)... but anyway.. HY, yah I do ballroom. I would continue with swing too if I had the time, but I don't, so ... too bad for that one. As for what kinds of dances... erm.. I know a bit of all the usual ballroom syllabus dances (ie. waltz, foxtrot, tango, viennese, quickstep, jive, swing, rumba, cha-cha, samba) but I'm really not good at most of them. I think the ones I know best are american waltz and international rumba and cha-cha. *QUICK*.. someone go and learn ballroom !!! Dance with me... move with me...
