Well what can I say except for "I Wish". For those of whom I showed, or who saw for themselves the ABC television documentary on Willis Island. Do you remember the part when the two guys who were here before me, were deliberating on what they would choose if they were given the choice between a 'fresh tomato' or 'Michelle Pfeiffer' after spending six months here? They both answered 'a fresh tomato'!!!!!! I would just like to go on record to say that fresh produce is not the only thing that we miss out on while located on a deserted island! I can only dream of having to make such a decision. |
Since December we have been graced with the
presence of 5 tropical cyclones in the Coral Sea. They were named Danni, Olinda, Pete,
Rona & Frank. Cyclone Pete and Rona were the only two to effect us here.
Both systems developed right on top of us, however they moved on before they became
'severe'. The best we got was some large seas and winds up to 80km an hour, while
Pete dropped 200mm of rain in 24 hours. To make up for this uneventful weather, I did spot this 'Water Spout' as seen on the left. A 'water spout' is the name given to a tornado that forms over water, again nothing severe about it, but it was very exciting to witness and the first one & hopefully not the last to have seen with the naked eye. |

Greg and I are getting sick of eating pizzas, pies and Tim Tams (seriously!), so this is our veggie garden that we are trying to get going again. Numerous attempts have been made, however so far most of the fruit and veg has flowered, rather than producing the goods. By now you are probably wondering what the go is with the stupid hats I'm always wearing. Well I have not had a hair cut for 5 months and its staying under wraps until I get back, so I can have that deserted island look, no chance of me growing a beard though! |
Just when you thought I could not build anything else to satisfy my sporting fix, along came my surf board! The inspiration behind this one was the fact that we were not allowed to take any water craft out with us to the island, so I built my own out of wood, polystyrene, plastic and duck tape! Then it was time for Greg and I to take each other on in the 'Pipeline Maters'

As you can see I'm struggling on this wave to get anywhere, however the only time we have had rideable waves, have been during the cyclones. The photo on the right was taken during cyclone Pete, I gave it ago and as expected I came of second best with quite a sore head!
