Guide to gold prospecting in North Carolina

Welcome to my little home page!

This page will be dedicated to gold prospecting in the great state of North Carolina. I am going to give you a list of places where anyone can go. These places charge a small fee to pan, sluice, high bank, and dredge. Please call before visiting to make sure these places are open. The rivers have been known to flood in the past! (That redeposits more gold!)

There are always people around who enjoy giving tips and pointers to beginners. I want to make it understood that none of the following places have solicited for me to advertise for them. These are great places to go, places where I have visited myself.

Thermal City gold mine
From I-40, Take the Rutherford/Marion exit (hwy.221). Go south for about 8 miles and look for sign on left. This will be the second Polly Spout road.
Ask for Lloyd

Same directions as to Thermal City, but you find The Lucky Strike about 1.5 to 2 miles BEFORE Thermal City.
(704) 738-4893
Miners Diner (good food) located on premises. Good camping, dredging, highbanking. Call about common operations!

Panning, sluicing, highbanking, small dredges. This is a small creek, with lots of clay. The owner uses a back-hoe to dig deep in the clay. He then makes this clay available for panning, sluicing, and highbanking.

The Cotton Patch
(704) 463-5797
Next door to Mountain Creek
Mining supply store, camping, panning, sluicing. There is a small museum with historical photos. Old Mining relics are plentiful. This is a great place for the beginner to learn. They have covered panning troughs, and plan on having fully inclosed and heated troughs by winter 97'

Dale Rio Gold
(704) 286-8606 or 438-4023
I-40 to Marion NC, go south on 226 for about 8 miles. Turn on 64 west and go about 4 miles and look for sign on left.
Panning, sluicing, highbanking, dredging.
This is a new place, and I don't have many details yet.

All of these places charge a nominal fee for prospecting, but it is relatively inexpensive compared to all of the fun and enjoyment you will experience.

I hope you found this information on this page helpfull. If you live in North Carolina, there are many other great places to go. Most of these will be on private land and require the owners permission.

Good luck and happy prospecting!
