The first part of the ride is the toughest being all single tract.Be prepared to climb about 500 feet through Caballero Canyon to dirt Mulholland. Take a short break and catch in a nice view of the San Fernando valley. Mileage to this point is about 1.75. Gradually climb on dirt mulholland for another mile till you see on your left the entrance into Topanga State Park.
At 5.0 mile a four way junction , the Hub, is reached. Take the fireroad to the right and climb to the apex. Get a nice scenic view of the area at Eagle Rock. On a clear day one can see the Pacific. Get ready for a great descent to Tippett Ranch. If you need to use the restroom or refill your water. This is the place.-mile7.5.
Continue now along East Topanga Fireroad. Get in the climbing mode because its basically 3 more uphill miles to the end of the ride. At mile 10 take the right trail and continue for another .5 miles to the end of the road. This spot is called Parker Mesa Overlook. Enjoy the great view here of the Pacific and LA suburbs. The return trip is identical except when you do the major climb past Tipett Ranch and reach the junction in the road continue straight to Eagle Rock and you will eventually reach the 4 way hub. Take the left road going down and take the turnoff to Reseda Blvd from dirt Mulhulland and enjoy the fast and furious descent to your car.
I am sure you noticed that this is a real pretty park. Did you know that Topanga State Park is the second largest urban park in the United States and the largest wildland park within any city in the world? This is a great park to hike also.
