Elevation : 1500' total elevation
climbing
Parking: same as ride #2
The beginning of this ride is the same as Ride
#2 up to dirt Mulhulland. Instead of going right turn left
and continue climbing for about 1.5 miles until you see on
your right a gated fireroad saying Sullivan Canyon. You are
now at about 1900 foot elevation. If the air is clear a
magnificent view of the San Fernando Valley, Santa Susana
Mountains and the front range of the San Gabriels behold
you. Proceed on this fireroad until the first turnoff on
your left. This is Sullivan Canyon.Get ready for a quick
descent to the canyon floor. Be careful. This is a
beautiful canyon lush with vegetation and oak trees. Its a
1200 foot descent. Take your time. Find a nice spot and
kick back. If you do this ride in the winter prepare to get
wet. Even in the summer there are a few stream crossings at
the end of the canyon. Between mile 7 and 8 keep a lookout
on your right for a trail leading out of the canyon. If you
reach a concrete path to your left leading to residential
area, you went to far. Backtrack, it should be about .5 -1
mile back. Now the work begins. Unless you are one hell of
a climber you will have to lug your bike up this
singletrack about 300feet climb for about .3 miles to the
paved road. This is the ridge
route.In about .5 miles it
turns into a dirt fireroad and you got a nice 4 mile 900
foot elevation climb back to dirt mulhulland. There is a
nice spot to rest under a lone oak tree. From here one can
look into Sullivan Canyon on the right, Rustic Canyon on
the left and eastern ridges of Topanga state park. While
ascending your goal will be the power lines in the distant.
Thats dirt Mulhulland. Once you reach dirt Mulhulland ,just
retrace your steps back to turnoff to Caballero Canyon and
enjoy the downhill.
