Glacier Point

Little more need be said about the beauty to be found at this national treasure. While the valley is certainly the main attraction for visitors, hiking trails abound everywhere within the park's borders.

In Summertime (and this could start from late June to late July), trails through the higher elevations of the park, including Touolomne Meadows and Glacier Point, are a little less crowded than the valley floor and, as a plus, tend to lead downhill (mostly), to the valley floor. One note of caution to all visitors to the park, there is water everywhere and it is cold and fast moving with dangerously slippery conditions.

 

 

 

 

Tuolomne Meadows

Backcountry campers are limited during peak periods, so contact the park in advance for reservations and permit availabilities.
In the winter, most of the higher elevation areas, especially through Tioga Pass, are closed, and only the area from the southern park entrance into the valley remain open. Some winter sport activities, including downhill and cross-country skiing can be found at Badger Pass (with shuttles from the valley floor providing the transportation needed).
A walk around the valley floor that has a fresh dusting of powder (most likely in February) can give one a new and refreshing perspective of this magnificent magical place. Yosemite p2...
