Our Chariot Racing Story

As you stand at the rail snow falling all around, the wind stings your eyes as you wait for the gates to open.  You hold your breath as the announcer says "They're Off."  Down the track race teams of horses each team driven by one man in a fiberglass chariot attached to an Axel with bicycle wheels.  You hear the thundering hooves racing down a snow-covered track.  The yells of the drivers are covered by screams from friends and family of each team cheering them onto the finish.  You yell "come on boys" or "Go, Go, Go" for your team or the team of a friend.  Then just as suddenly as it started, it is over.  Exhilaration and Pride fill your heart if it is your team that wins, for those that don't there's always next week and another race.
What makes a person withstand the bitter winter cold to watch these 440 yard races?  Some may say the thrill, others might say the excitement of the races, us "We are Addicted to Chariot Racing."  Just spend a day at the races, watching families bond together and Friends grow closer as they help each other with their teams.
Chariot Racing is a time-honored tradition in the Martin family going back to our wonderful father Don Martin who with other friends in the Preston, Idaho area founded the Cache Valley Cutter and Chariot Association.  Carrying on this tradition is the owner of RDM Paint and Quarter Horses Rex Martin, along with his brother Kelly Martin they keep the tradition alive and growing in the Martin Family.  As each child grows up he has to take his turn in the preparation of the team and the not so fun jobs such as cleaning out the stalls as well.  All the chores are worth it when the moment comes when you get to step up into the chariot.  Just ask nephew Brody Martin when in 1998 at the age of 16, he drove the Martin Family team to victory of the 11th Division, in the Idaho State Cutter and Chariot Association.
If you ever get the chance don't miss out on these races, they are everything that you can imagine and more.  Get to know us and you could get addicted too.
