FORT GRATIOT LIGHT-PORT HURON
The oldest surving lighthouse on Lake Huron,
it was constructed in 1825, and rebuild in 1829
after being destroyed by a storm. The light
was automated in 1933.





PORT AUSTIN REEF LIGHT


The light was constructed in 1878
to protect shipping from the dangers
of the reef extenting from the tip of
Michigan's "thumb". Serveral shipwrecks
are known to be on the bottom in that
area. The light was automated in 1953.








Old Presque Isle Light
The light was built in 1840 to guide ships into
Presque Isle Harbor, between Alpena and Rogers City.
It was replaced by a taller structure in 1870. The
old lighthouse is now a museum, and there's is a
small charge to climb the 36-foot tower.

"New" Presque Isle Light

The new light was opened in 1870 to replace the old Presque
Isle Light, which is located about a mile away on the same
road. The 113-foot tower is among the tallest on the Great
Lakes. The attached building is operated as a gift shop, and
the tower can be climbed for a small charge.




Tawas Point Light
The Tawas Point light was originally built in 1852, the light
had to be moved in 1876 because Tawas Point had moved more
than a mile due to shifting sands. The light is still in
operation and is in the care of the U.S. Coast Guard.




Round Island Light
Round Island light was built in 1895.It was abandoned in the
1840's, and nearly succumbed to neglect and high water.
In 1970 a restoration project saved the light.
