Still even more Big bend

A view of beautiful downtown Terlingua, Texas.....

This is not all there is in Terlingua, but it's close. It's famous for its annual Chili Cook-off, wherein thousands of nominally sane people from all over the country converge and hold a contest to see who makes the best tasting and more importantly screamingly hottest chili. Shown at right is the final resting place of a few of the judges; some didn't judge to somebody's liking, some others fell victim to chili that was just too damn hot. (Just kidding, of course.)
Terlingua is an interesting place. There's a cafe, a backpacking outfitter's, and little else other than the cemetery and a lot of ruins. You want to live in Terlingua? Throw down your tent, or take over an abandoned school bus, if you can find one abandoned. Nobody will ask any questions of you. If you need anything though, you better bring it with you, including water, gasoline, electricity.... Terlingua is a town in name only, it's really a place out of time. There are some very nice and...interesting...people.

"Fancy meeting you here." As I passed through I saw a notice that a friend of mine, Steve Fromholz, was performing that night at the Starlight Theater (aptly named,as you can see.) Of all the places in the world to run into someone that you know, this has got to be one of the last.

It's goodbye for now to the Chisos Mountains, and Big Bend National Park.
It even rains here sometimes.
