SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS

San Antonio Missions National Historic Park consists of four Spanish missions built in the 1700's.
They are linked by the "Mission Trail", which runs for a couple of miles near downtown San Antonio.
These missions are still in use, serving the local Catholic community, with masses held regularly.

This is Mission San Jose.

The walls of the missions were once plastered and painted with bright colors and designs. Almost all of this is gone now, I believe this wall of San Jose is the last remnant.

Mission San Juan. The last time I was there, significant restoration was proceeding. The greater part of the building in this photo consisted of huge granaries where food was stored to feed the Indians.
