ouray, colorado
A view of Main Street

Ouray is known as "The Switzerland of the Rockies". It's on the western side of the mountains, 60 or 70 miles north of Durango. The difference in topography in the region is amazing. We drove from the desert of the Four Corners up to Ouray and the snow covered mountains in just a couple of hours.

Ouray is a charming town. It's named after Chief Ouray of the Ute tribe, who lived in the area.

There are lots of buildings from the 1800's here, many converted into hotels and restaurants. The town is not so large that you can't walk the whole thing in a couple of hours or so.
