POTTERY AND STUFF

My favorite place to look for arrowheads happens to have other things besides them pointy rocks, and i'm going to show you some. Tribes move around often at different times of the year, to follow the food, etc. It is common belief that when they leave one campsite, the utensils which they cannot take with them they break, such as the pottery, the manos, metates, etc. That is one reason why you don't find bowls and pottery complete, but you do find shards from these pieces. I find quite a few shards of pottery at my favorite place, i also find grinding stones which were used for grinding the corn and stuff. I find gorgets, and sometimes even bones. These first two pieces of pottery in the picture below are parts of bowls, they are textured. If you will look real close, on the left one you will see horseshoe shaped marks on the side. The one on the right has very odd ridged shapes. They both have bumps towards the rims. Almost all bowl pieces found at this site have these. They have holes in the back where they pushed a stick or something in to make the bumps. The one on the left was found 5-2-96, and the right 5-28-90.

Below is a picture of a couple more pieces of textured pottery, but these are from the same bowl. This is the first time i have found pottery that actually matches identically, all the textures are the same. Designs were made in many ways on the pottery, but the designs are never identical on two different pottery vessels.

These are some bone remnants that were found around the pottery. Probably from bison or other similar game. All the rock from around the area where these came from are blackened from old camp fires, thats why i say these bones were most likely dinner.
