Eastern Sierra

Blue Lake
- It's a region from Yosemite, in the north, to Olancha, in the south. There are many easy-access trailheads leading to rugged granite sierra scenery and crystalline lakes. Summer is obviously the best (but also the busiest) hiking time. Whether it be for a dayhike or an extended backpacking visit, there are trail quotas in force, and allowed permits go quickly. If you can make it during off-peak seaon, you're more likely to get on the trail.
TrailMasters has made several 2 and 3 day trips into the wilderness along this stretch of Sierra and can supply information on some of the "Maximum Reward" trails and campsites (see below).

Blue Lake, again

Blue Lake - Southwest of Bishop, CA. It is a very scenic glistening lake nestled amongst towering granite spires (often with snow lingering all year round). It is only a 2.5 mile hike from the road at Lake Sabrina with a mostly moderate elevation gain, and is therefore subject to high day-hike visitation during peak season. If you continue a mile or so further up this valley, many other more private campsites can be found with equally beautiful views.
