Songbird Slough Information
Quick overview:
Songbird Slough, nee Campbell Slough, was aquired in portions from 1976 through 1980 as part
of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District's land aquisition program. The slough itself, is 14 acres, with part of it being
wetlands created from imported wetland soil brought in during the I-355 construction process. In open water season the wetlands
are off limit to anglers. For ice fishing though, the area can be fished. This lake is one of the more irregular "shaped" lakes
as the bottom varies from spot to spot. This is quite different than the typical bowel shaped bottoms of most forest preserve lakes.
Another open water match will need to take place before deciding how good an area it is for a venue. For ice fishing of course
shoreline scrub brush and trees don't come into play. On a non-fishing note, birders meet here to see migrating birds visiting the
wetland areas.
