Exploring Chaing Mai, Nov 9th

Had a good sleep. Very hot to-day. Booked the train back to Bangkok 14th Nov at 2104hrs We will arrive on the 15th at 0904 hrs We also booked a tour to the Grand Palace for this afternoon. Had a second breakfast and read for awhile. Too hot on the street.. Have a sinus headache.

winter palace Went on tour at 1300hrs to Phu Ping Grand Palace. This is the winter Palace for the king. The Thai people have a great deal of respect for their king. The rose beds around the palace are all covered up with plastic.

The highway up to the palace is about 11km, quite steep and winding. There are great views of Chaing Mai and the surrounding hills and valleys. Looks just as I imagined, misty and each range of hills appear a different shade.

meo village After seeing the palace we got in a jeep type truck to go on to the Meo village. They are still living a primitive lifestyle but lots of commercialism also. Not very interesting after being in Nepal and seeing how the mountain people live. hill tribe population Then the same truck took us to the Bhuddist temple Doi Sutwep. There are relics of Lord Bhudda enshrined in this temple, so very important place for the Thai people of this area. Very ornate buildings, well kept and quite commercial. There is a cog train type vehicle to take you up if you do not want to walk the 300 steps. We took cable car up and walked down.

Back to Chaing Mai. The scenery on the ride up and down, deep ravines hills and jungle were the best part of the trip. A couple from Israel and two lovely young Japanese women shared the tour with us. Both spoke good English. One had lived in Vancouver for 5 years and liked Canada very much.

Had a good Thai dinner across the moat from the hotel. Still not feeling well. Had quite a bit of dizziness and nausea to-day. I took an actifed and it seemed to help some. Decide to start taking my diuretic, haven’t taken any while I have been away and the Meniere’s may be rearing its ugly head again. Out of gravol. Taking some Dramamine. Not sure if it is the same drug or not. May not help like the gravol does. Leaving in the morning on a three day trek?? Hope for the best.
