Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!

by Katherine Ashewode, called "Kat"

The Lady Joane Glory is a local pirate ship-hold (ie: a household based on a ship). The cheer of the East Kingdom is "Vivat! Vivat! Vivat!" The LJG adds a house cheer to the end of this: "AHHRRR!" (said with a sufficiently piratey attitude). That's where the name of the song comes from. It is about the crew. It is sung to the tune of "Rosin the Beau," which is also the tune to "The Ancient and Old Irish Condom."

I sail with a group of great pirates,
We've plundered from near and from far,
And whenever we start feeling rowdy,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our patrons are gracious and noble,
They've plenty doubloons and dinars,
And whenever they send us more money,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our captain's a mighty old sailor,
His sword has dealt many a scar,
And each time he walks on the fore-deck,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our lady is lovely and graceful,
She's a beauty without any par,
And when she looks out in our direction,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our trumpeter, he is a Spaniard,
You can hear him recite from afar,
And to stop him from giving long speeches,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our mapmaker knows where he's going,
Don't worry, it's not that bizarre,
'Cause he knows his way to every alehouse,
and we cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our pilot is great with directions,
He can steer by the faintest of stars,
And when he steers us forward and truly,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our quartermaster's always ready,
She knows every bag and each jar,
And when she lets us in to the pantry,
We cheer "Three Vivats and and an AHHRRR!"

Our purser's a wonder with money,
She counts each doubloon and dinar,
And when she gives out shares of the plunder,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our carpenter keeps us seaworthy,
He has skill with wood and with tar,
And so long as we make it to port-side,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our gunner's in charge of the cannons,
He aims them straight on from afar,
And as the foe sinks to the bottom,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our chaplain's a master of blessings,
He'll bless all the beer in your bar,
And when he sings out his benedictions,
We cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Our scallywags drink at the alehouse
They’re drunk and they're ready to spar,
And now that this song, it is over,
They cheer "Three Vivats and an AHHRRR!"

Vivat! Vivat! Vivat! AHHRRR!!!
