Vivant Pellandres et Valeria
by Katherine Ashewode
On March 5th, 2005 (AS XXXIX), the Shire of the Island of the Sleeping Dragon was investited by the queen and king of the Eastrealm to be a barony. Our first baron and baronness were (and are) Pellandres dit le Frere and Valeria Laskaris. I wrote this song for them. The tune is original.
As a point of note, the chorus is in Latin. The translation is: "Long live Pellandres and Valeria! With them ruling, we fear neither war nor hunger."
Chorus:
Vivant Pellandres et Valeria!
Eis regentibus, timemus
Nec bellum nec famem.Harken old men, young men, wise men,
Face our noble coronet.
Baron bold with will unyielding
And his faithful baroness.Chorus
See Pellandres, battle-ready,
Muster troops, to war they go!
See them strike like a mighty hammer
Strong and brave they crush the foe!Chorus
See Valeria, prudent planner
Gather autumn's harvest wheat
Winter's ravage cannot touch us!
Food lies always at our feet.Chorus
See them ruling, wise and able,
May they rule for many years!
Charge your glass and hold it lofty,
Raise your voice and shout this cheer:Vivant Pellandrus et Valeria! (x3)
