Down the road at "Shenly House", the occupants and their guests were sitting in the living room, each drinking a can of imported Canadian beer. Gondor and his wife Paulette were entertaining their daughter Lulu and son-in-law Errol, who had recently tied the knot after a fifteen year engagement. Each of these had had a recent connection with Ystranglus band. Errol conducted the senior band, Lulu was in charge of the junior band and Gondor and Paulette had both been on the committee - the former as Chairman. All had since left though following several disagreements between them and the players in the band.
Gondor stared down into his can and laughed unexpectedly. "Ay up, then", he said. "Any news?"
"Well", Lulu answered. "As a matter of fact, I was passing the Ystranglus bandroom on my way home tonight and there were hardly any cars outside. Looks like things are really going downhill." Lulu had been replaced by Katrina as conductor of the junior band after her departure. Katrina's scathing comments had made a major contribution towards the clear out of this family from the band.
"Ha!" Errol's face twisted into the most hideous looking sneer. "I told them that it wouldn't be long before disaster struck."
"How right you were", purred Lulu, her voice suddenly reflective and distant.
Paulette left the room to go to the toilet and the conversation returned to what was on the television that night. |
