A Few Words on Denizens and Their Houses

Within the City's perimeter there are five Great Houses, each of which is administered by a denizen who mirrors the Will of the Head of the House. Sometimes known by the vulgar as Butlers, these denizens in every way serve the houses and families to which they belong. Although powerful, the denizens are constrained to their Houses by inclination and creation and have little independent existence or action. Their exact antecedents are lost in the flood of history.

Lambeth PalaceLambeth House: This House was ceded by the City to the Warlord when he first came to Califa in a gesture of friendship and gratitude for the republic's delivery from the tyranny of the Pontifexa Georgianna Hadraada. The Denizen of Lambeth is Furfur, a servitor who takes the form of a dog-headed prince with eyes the color of pomegranates. Furfur's special talent is the artistic arrangement of artwork and interior design. He also brews delicious ginger beer.

Fyrdraaca House: Commonly known as Crackpot Hall, this House was managed by Denizen Valefor until his abrogation in 854 by the Head of the House, General Juliet Buchanan Fyrdraaca, for causes unknown. While Crackpot Hall was once considered one of the glories of the City, its lack of denizen oversight has relegated its splendor to memories only. It is the only House in the City to be Empty, although the Fydraaca family still reside within its crumbling walls.

Sanctuary: Home to the Holy Headmistress of Heaven, Sanctuary is also the location of Escuela de la Corazon Fuega. Here young women from all over the Republic are prepared to become good citizens well-schooled in the finer arts of archery, trigonometry, ... Continued Below...

Sleepers Shocked! Ground Grumbles!

Inhabitants South of the Slot were tossed from their beds early this morning by an earthquake which struck at the dawning hour of 4:42 a.m. Residents reported that the tremblor, a rolling motion somewhat like a sea swell, lasted upward of ten seconds, the longest such trembling that has been reported in the last year. Although shocks have become more recent of late, they have hitherto been of a more jarring nature, and lasted not more than a second or two. Indeed, previous tremblors have been mild enough to be mistaken for the rumble of a horse-car or a particularly throbbing headache.

Sitri, Denizen of the Houses of the Holy, speaking for The Hierophant Therion, who is currently in the middle of a major conjuring, denied that Lord Therion's grip was slipping. "Lord Therion has been particularly busy preparing for the upcoming conjunction between the astrological signs Ursa and Mariposa, which is scheduled to occur next Monday and can not take your questions as this time," Sitri said, urging the reporter to get off his petunias. Readers will recall that upon his arrival in the City some twenty years ago, Lord Therion had pledged to end the City's constant contest with the riotous earth, and indeed, since his tenure as Hierophant began earthquakes have been almost unknown. However, reports of quivering curtains, rippling ribands and wavering windows have recently increased.

Sanctuary: (continued) ...bibliography, semiotics, and domestic bliss. Archangel Bob is the denizen of Sanctuary. He has the wings white as salt and his kiss is death.

Sitri TherionHouses of the Holy: Formerly the seat of the Brakespeare Family, this House was abandoned in 825 when the Adept Julien Brakespeare fled the City rather than submit to the Warlord's conquering authority. Upon his miraculous arrival and ascension to Hierophant in 832, Lord Therion made the Houses his center. Sitri is the denizen of the Houses of the Holy. He has the head of a camel, the feet of a duck, and no one who applies to the Houses for food, shelter or company is ever denied.

Bilskinir House: Bilskinir was the seat of the Hadraada family, from whose ranks the Head of the House ruled the City as Pontifexa for over two hundred years until the arrival of the Appalling Warlord Florian Abenfarax de la Carcaza in 825. Paimon is Bilskinir's denizen and a greater or larger servitor can not be found anywhere. Upon the execution of General Hadraada Secunda in 852, Paimon closed up the House and now it receives no one. Paimon was once renowned for the tastiness of his fudge, his spectacular blueness and the bell-like tones of his dulcet voice. Now no one dares approach Bilskinir without running the risk of being snickersnacked by Paimon's legendary mustachios, for he values the privacy of his House remarkably.
