Academic Projects
- Computer-Controlled Robot (1987)
Third year project for my Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
at the university of Cardiff.
The project was to design and implement an electronic control circuit for a robot and to
develop the software on an IBM computer.
- Microprocessor-based Talking Scale (1988)
Master's degree project at UMIST, to design and implement a microprocessor-based
system that would enable to measure the weight of an object and give it out vocally.
The programming was done in Assembly language for the Motorola 6809 microprocessor.
- Computer Applications of Signal Processing System Design and Simulation
using Multiple Processors (1988-1991)
PhD thesis in the department of Computer Science at the university of Manchester.
Develop high performance algorithms to enable concurrent execution of DSP simulation.
The software was written in C++.
Research
Engineering Work
- Develop scheduling and arbitration algorithms for high-speed switches
- Implement those algorithms on chip
- Use the VHDL language for such implementation
- Work on Advanced Forward Error Correction
- Modelling the AFEC in C
- Implementation of the AFEC in .13u chip
- Develop 10GbE and SONET on chip
Associations
I'm a member of the
"Advanced Switching Interconnect Special Interest Group (ASI-SIG)",
which is registered in the US, and whose objectives are to develop a set
of standards based on Advanced Switching.
In the past, I've also represented Power X in the
"Common Switch Interface X (CSIX)" and
"Network Processing Forum (NPF)" organisations.
Conferences
In 2001, I gave a lecture on"High-Performance Intelligent
Switch Fabric Architectures and QOS"
in San-Jose, California.
I've also done some presentations at the "Motorola Developers Forum" in
Atlanta (2000) and in New-Orleans (2001) .
Interesting Research
Here is a list of research topics I've shown an interest in:
- The effective and cheap use of solar energy in Africa.
- Electronic Cryptography
- Biometry: The generation and decoding of biometric data from voice, hands,
retina, iris, face, etc.
- High Speed Forward Error Correction
- RFID- Radio Frequency Identification
- Efficient Routing Algorithms for Internet Application
Experiences
I have a good knowledge of Analogue and Digital Electronics.
I also have some experience in chip design, mainly (.13 u, .18u, .25u) chips
using VHDL for the design and verification.
My programming skills extend to the following languages: C, C++, TCL/TK, VHDL.
I also intend to learn other languages such as PERL and Java.
