U. S. Government

The Federal Government is one of the largest publishers in the world: every congressional hearing, report, and debate; research studies in almost all of the sciences and social sciences; educational materials in all fields and for all age levels; business, economic, and financial information; detailed statistics and demographics on almost every subject; public policy and international affairs; and much more.

Currently, this material is published either on paper or microfiche and distributed to Depository Libraries around the country (usually at least one per congressional district), but more and more agencies are starting to make some of this information available online over the Internet as well. Some sites already have huge amounts of information while others are still primarily public relations instruments for the agency.

I've grouped the agencies into very broad subject categories, but some would fit equally well in several different subjects, so it's worth browsing. Pick the agency that looks like it might be responsible for the kind of information you need, and see what they have.
