Giant Arctic bird of Arabic mythology that God created around the time of Moses. It lived for 1700 years and, like the Phoenix, immolated itself to arise again. The Anka were once so numerous that they had eaten all of the animals in the world and began carrying off children. Vexed by this, God prevented the Anka from reproducing, and so their species eventually diminished. |
