Tengu

One of a group of Bakemono of Japanese folklore, described as having red hair, piercing black eyes, crows' beaks, and glittering wings like that of a hummingbird. They were said to be the ghosts of haughty and insincere Buddhist monks. They would fall trees and swoop down from the air to kidnap children, and they were known to occasionally impersonate Buddhists and set fire to temples. Tengu were said to live in a place shrouded by mist somewhere on Mt. Kurama.
