Chocking |
This occurs when the airway is partially or totally obstructed by something
which in the act of swallowing, goes into the windpipe rather than down the
food passage. However, chocking can also be caused by muscular spasm.

SYMPTOM - General symptoms and signs of asphyxia - Casualty will be unable to speak or breath and may be gripping the throat. TREATMENT 1. Remove any debris or false teeth from the casualty's mouth by hooking out with your fingers and encourage her to cough. 2. If the object is not dislodged by coughing, help the casualty to bend over with her head lower than her lungs. Slap her smartly between the shoulder-blades with the heel of your hand. Repeat up to four times if necessary. 3. Check her mouth to see if obstructio has been dislodged. If it has not, you may be able to remove it by permorming abdominal thrusts. 4. Check the mouth again. If the obstruction is visible but not coughed out, hook it out with your fingers. 5. If chocking is not relieved, again repeat back slaps and abdnominal thrusts.
