About 3 years ago I bought a Yamaha Pacifica 112M my first electric guitar. Sounded great and not really expensive. I always liked the natural look of it but I guess I just wanted it to be darker, and I wanted to make a few other modifications to it.
I began by taking it apart starting with the strings. Then off came the neck then the pick guard. The body was stripped down to the natural wood. Which actually took forever. That polyurethane clear coat that they used was really hard to get out. Then again I did do it by hand, but I did get it to something like a 220 grit (real nice and smooth). After that it sat a round for about a year because I lacked the funds to complete the project. Eventually I said the hell with it so I started working on it again. I picked out a nice dark mahogany stain to go with and it turned out looking great. After sanding I applied a wipe on polyurethane clear coat that made it look even better. Now comes the good stuff. The parts actually took a while for me to figure out what exactly I wanted. It came down to black everything. So that’s what I did, I bought all the parts from Custom Shop Parts great guys, really helped me out. I used this wiring that I found from the Seymour Duncan site. I had to convert the humbucker color codes using the Custom Shop Parts code. And to make sure everything ok I used these diagrams to check which pickups were selected at what position.
