JAG Big Battle Day 17th November 2001 On this occasion we decided to do a match up between Orks and Imperial forces (OK a couple of other forces snuck in). Four players a side, each with a 2,000 point army. There were 2 objectives on each side worth 1,000 points each. The battlefield split into two, 9 foot by 6 foot tables. We allowed troops to move between tables by driving up to the table edge and on the next turn moving onto the other table. In fact very little use was made of this rule - but was nice to have it as an option. There was no firing allowed between the two tables, you had to be on one of the tables to be able to shoot at targets on the table (this makes life a lot easier, believe me). Since we use standard 3 foot by 2 foot boards to build the table areas, each side had a choice of 6 boards to deploy in (3 boards made up each baseline). Leaving a gap of one board width (2 feet) between each force. Using scraps of paper to mark which boards had armies on them (2 scraps on each side being left blank) the Orks cunningly deployed 3 armies on one table, hoping to use a massed attack to quickly beat the Imperials on their table and then quickly move onto the next table. The Imperials scattered their armies randomly and let the winds of fate determine their deployment. We decided to use Deep Striking and the option to use the Dawn Assault rule (in which the first turn of the game is a Night Fighting turn). If one side chose to use Dawn Assault, there would be one turn of night fighting each and that side would automatically get the first turn. If both sides chose Dawn Assault, then the night rules would apply and both sides would have to roll for first turn. If neither side chose the option, then is was a simple roll off for the first turn. Now let battle commence: |

The players have a chance for a chat before the game starts. You can see the arrangement of two banks of tables. Both Imperial objectives (the dark bunkers) are visible near the base lines. |
The main force 2000 point Ork army are set up and are waiting to start the game. The cream coloured building in the background is the Ork held objective on this table. | ![]() |

Facing the Orks are two Imperial armies, Blood Angels and Space Wolves - can you see the hatred in these commanders faces as they prepare for conflict? |
Dawn attack, the Orks have rolled and get the first turn, advancing under cover of darkness. A Speed Freaks army, a standard Ork army, supported by the warped forces of Slaanesh. | ![]() |

Waiting in front of the mighty onslaught, an Armored company consisting of 4 Basilisks 5 Leman Russ's, 2 Chimera's and 2 Hellhounds. So closely packed around their bunker that there is little room to move. |

The end of the Armored company's turn, they have killed some of the Ork Speed Freaks. |

The Armored company army have been attacked and are just managing to stay alive, although massive explosions rip though many of the tanks. |
On the other side of the bunker these are the few remaining tanks left, two have been immobilised and one has had it's flamer destroyed by an Ork who ramming attack | ![]() |

The Howling Griffons advance on the right wing but meet a Squat 'Ork' army coming the other way. |

Now almost totally overrun the Ork position is captured by Imperial forces (Space Wolves), whilst the Blood Angels regroup in the foreground. | ![]() |

On the other table all the Imperial tanks have been immobilised or destroyed which means the bunker has been taken. Score one objective captured on each side. |

A unit of fantastic Chaos Marines. |
What do you think of these Squat infantry? For this game they are organised as Orks but they could also be played as an Imperial Guard army. | ![]() |

Well at the end of all that it was a draw. Both sides had captured one of the enemy objectives and both sides had lost approximately two armies. Perhaps a moral victory goes to the Imperials because they did not even bother with a plan but simply got stuck in. Back to JAG home page. | |
