ANDREW "COMMANDER DRUMSLUT" CLELAND

Unofficial bandleader and official timekeeper, Andy cut his drummer's teeth at the age of 14, playing the side drum in a Scottish marching band!

Inspired by drummers such as Phil Collins, Pete de Freitas, Stewart Copeland and  Keith Moon, he got his first drum kit at 18. Among his favourite bands are Husker Du (after whose best album Zen Arcade is named), Genesis, The Beatles, Gong, REM, The Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers & The Dead Kennedys.

A long and varied career has included gigs with an impressive array of musicians, in styles ranging from thrash to cabaret, from folk to rock. Among these are Simple English, The Soft Targets, Van der Want & Letcher, Johannes Kerkorrel, The Blast, Robin Auld,

The Kerels and Gringolene (where the seeds of Zen Arcade were sown). This versatility and willingness to jam has earned him the moniker Commander Drumslut.

As a Libra, Andy balances his deafening assault on the skins with quieter pursuits, including video editing, keeping bulldogs, drinking Tequila and arguing with bartenders.
