"JESUS CHRIST" JAMES DONALDSON

James first started jamming with Andy in 1990, while still playing lead guitar for Live Jimi Presley - an avant-garde rock outfit not unlike the Birthday Party. In 1992 he teamed up with Alistair and Andy in the short-lived, but powerful pop/rock band Gringolene. Drawing on an eclectic array of musical influences, ranging from bluegrass to acid jazz, from Nick Cave to Led Zeppelin, James contributes highly inventive guitar lines to Zen Arcade's songs, always searching for the unexpected.

James is the ultimate anti-guitar hero, paradoxically preferring to remain out of the spotlight, even when dominating audiences with ferocious lashings of feedback and unsettling melody lines. His approach to playing, oscillating between methodical and intuitive, finds additional expression in his secondary interest - computer graphic design and animation.
