Combat Zone Wrestling was started in 1999 by John Zandig. It is an independent promotion based in New Jersey, although they regularly hold shows in Delaware following a ruling against extreme wrestling in the state of New Jersey. CZW is a good mixture of two worlds, providing a combination of high flying and technical matches along with extreme, physical matches. Extreme doesn't even describe CZW, and it is labelled 'ultraviolent' by its growing number of fans. On one side you have high flyers like Nick Mondo and on the other brutal battles between the likes of Wifebeater, Justice Pain, and of course, the owner Zandig. The CZW roster boasts a huge range of talent, all of whom are athletes at the top of their game. Most recently CZW has signed some major junior heavyweight talents from Japan, expanding the already elite roster. Many people criticise CZW for being too extreme, too brutal, whatever. In my mind, the sheer brutality served up at each CZW show is a sign of hard working, dedicated performers with alot of heart in everything they do in that ring.
