BACK TO THE POLE ...
...Having good films is like enjoying a delicious meal in a nice restaurant...
05. Seaside (Bord de mer)
Director
- Julie Lopes-Curval
Cast - Bulle Ogier, Helene Filleres, Ludmila Mikael
France 2002 Colour 88min
"Seaside (Bord de mer) Lopes-Curval's directorial debut snagged the Camera d'or at Cannes 2002 and has been featured at a flock of 2002/3 film fests. Immaculately observed, it follows a group of locals in a small French seaside community over a year. In turn leisured, pensive, moody, festive as the seasons change the town, there is an almost Chekovian sense in the film's insight that life happens in the incidentals of the days and in those unapparent rolls of the dice. The ensemble cast exquisitely captures the repressions in and the acceptance of small town life and the wishes of life beyond."
Seaside is yet another French film taking place next to the seaside. Apart from the cool seaview of every season, the story is about people at the coast having their normal life. The film is quiet and still. Feel like having sea breeze, comfortable, and the brain thinks empty. There is not much special about the story, but maybe this is also kinda of a description of our daily normal life. What proves the passing of time is only the shiny peddles and the never-stopping running waves onto the coast. A film for the retired. (5/10)
