"Dagur Kari opens our eyes to Icelandic fjords cut off from the outside world, flanked by ominous mountains and shrouded under sheets of snow. It's a world of pristine beauty and icy solitude that you either love or hate. And 17-year-old Nori hates it. Edgy, introspective and regarded by everyone as the village idiot, he is dying to escape this white-walled prison with Iris, a city girl working at the local gas station. However, his bungling attempts at escape only pushes him into a tighter corner. Only a natural disaster could offer him a window into a better world. Rebel Without a Cause gets the Dogme treatment."

Another good film from the Northern Europe. It appears to me that the Nordic films are shiny recently that attract me a lot to them. This time, it's a story about Noi, another spotting train from Iceland. Though proven to be genius, Noi could never fit into the bounded system. Putting a tape recorder in the classroom just to fulfil the expectation from his father, he was not prepared to live with others in a meaningless way. He met her snow white, and he tried every best to get rid of the dummy environment. From the kaleidoscope, he could see the outer world with palm trees and breaking waves. To him, places outside the snowy village were all a myth. He had his aspirations, he wanna go to Africa, Egypt, Laos…everything could be so great for him. And then, an avalanche took away everything from him - every familiar face and voice. All farewells came sudden. What left behind is only an underground hole he used to hide in…a tiny world of his own. (8.5/10)
