Among those who was in buildings WTC, onboard the broken planes there might be each of us - whether a American he, or the Byelorussian. It is known, that among victims, basically of the younger personnel of the companies, was much russian-speaking. On behalf of inhabitants of Zhodino and Byelorussia we express to people of USA the deepest condolences.

Zhodino - the past and the present

The city of Zhodino of regional submission is located in 50 kms from Minsk, occupies the area of 1922 hectares.At city two dates of birth: the first - historical, 1688; the second - March, 7, 1963 when the city settlement has received the status of regional submission.

First time of Zhodino is mentioned in assembly books of the Minsk city court in January, 1688. The name of city proceeds from the river Zhodinka. In 1866 in Zhodino it was totaled 470 inhabitants. There was a church, national school, a water mill, a bench, a tavern. The population was engaged in an agriculture, processing of wood, fine trade. In the same 1866 through Zhodino the railway was laid.

In view of the site - for a way from Minsk to Moscow, Zhodino has deserved mentions first of all in historical chronicles of last wars.

From Denis Davydov's memoirs, a hero of war of 1812:

" Already we were on half of road to Ozjatichi, when we were caught up sent to me in Kozlov Bereg by the courier with the letter from colonel Tolj. In it he informs me on a ferry of the French army through Berezina and notifies, that the main army goes on Zhukovets, Zhodino and Logoysk... "

From a history of fighting application of first-ever heavy multimotor bombers "Ilja-Muromec", 1920:

"... "Muromecs" have gone flight to Minsk. At station Zhodino it was broken two ships: "1th" and "2th". Machine of Tumansky have loaded with cans with castor oil which should be transported to Minsk for fighters. Duaring take-off "2th"'s chassis has touched embankment of road and has had an accident. Thus cans have broken up also all fuselage of the ship has turned to a bath filled with castor oil. "

From memoirs of the veteran of Great Domestic war:

" We lived in Sudobovka (a village near Zhodino), our rural nickname was Hares. I remember the first Germans. They very loyally concerned to peace inhabitants, arranged dances, treated children with sweets... It have then appeared the Police, send denunciations, punishments. "

The base to revival of village of Zhodino became construction a state district power station and a factory of road and meliorative machines "Dormash"on the basis of which the Byelorussian automobile factory ("BELAZ") on release of supersize automobiles was created.

March, 7, 1963 Zhodino was given by the decree of Presidium of Supreme Soviet Byelorussia the status of city of regional submission.

On the preliminary data checking the population, as of February, 16, 1999 in city lives 59322 persons.

In territory of city it is located 10 industrial enterprises. Leading enterprise of city is "Byelorussian automobile factory" ("BELAZ") on release of the supersize dumpers intended for work in quarries of open-pit mining of minerals, and also for work on construction of large hydraulic engineering and industrial constructions. Now "BELAZ" lets out autodumpers carrying capacity 30, 42, 80, 120, 180, 220 ò. Today at the enterprise work more than 7000 persons..

The largest enterprise of light industry specializing on manufacture of knitted products, Open Society "Svitanok".

From scientific institutes the most known are the Byelorussian scientific research institute of agriculture and forages and the Byelorussian scientific research institute of animal industries.

In city issues two newspapers - " Zhodinskie navini" and "Byelorussian autozavodets".

The bus fleet of Zhodino serves 7 city and 15 suburban routes, most extended of city routes - 10 kms.. In city works the round-the-clock service of a call of a taxi by phone .

In Zhodino there are 3 polyclinics, a hospital (14 profile branches), 8 drugstores.

Among city sights the monument devoted A.F.Kuprijanovoj and to her five sons who have lost in Great Domestic war is well-known .

Except for railway station " Zhodino " operates the stopping point of electrotrains "Zhodino - southern", located closer to the centre .

National airport " Minsk " is in 40 kms from city
