Gotten Zouaves

6th TN Volunteer Infantry, CSA, Co. B (originally Co. D)

This photograph is of the tails coat of Private Richard Alexander of Company B "The Gotten Zouaves", 6th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. This homespun coat is made of brown jean with 3/4" red cotton broadcloth tape around the top of the collar (somewhat visible in scan). The body and sleeves are lined with red and white stripped calico cotton fabric. It has two interior applique pockets, with the left breast pocket made of the lining material and the right breast pocket made of the jean material. The nine button on the front of the jacket are brass coin buttons with the backmark "Warranted / Rich Orange". The coat was made by his Aunt M.B.
