Uncle Bonsai

Uncle Bonsai

Uncle Bonsai was a musical trio officially classified as a folk group, but their songs often were humorous. They originated in Seattle in 1981, recording and touring until 1989. Their songs often touched on social issues and satire at the same time, for example singing about a man who committed suicide when "Love Boat" was canceled. The song "Boys Want Sex in the Morning" got some air time on the radio. Both of us, separately, heard some of their songs and became fans of the group.

Jon attributes the group with "introducing" us together:

Now, the Doug Suite is not to be confused with the Doug Trilogy. The Doug Trilogy is three songs about a guy named Doug. The Doug Suite is totally different. It's five songs about a guy named Doug. It starts when Doug is very young with " Doug Goes to Town," followed by "Doug Goes to the Circus" which is, of course, the same song as "Doug Goes to Town" with the word "circus" where the word "town" was. Then later on in life, it's "Doug at Home," which is a song about spontaneous combustion, and finally, the last song in the Doug Suite is "Doug at the Gates of Hell", or the special New York version, "Doug Sees Cats for the Second Time."

Then, in 1998, the Doug concert was recorded, allowing us access to a total, so far, of 13 songs about a guy named Doug. This recording includes "Doug's First Job," "Doug's First Date," and "Doug's Greatest Christmas Ever."
