GAME OF THE WEEK:
-----------------
Two games hung in the balance during Buffalo's final drive Monday night. The NY
Jets had just taken a 20-17 lead and Cary Blanchard's extra point had given
Berger/Browell a slim 20-19 lead over Steve Czupryna. The following scenario
was then set: No score by Buffalo, Czupryna loses. A Steve Christie field goal
would give Czupryna a lead, but the opportunity was still available for
Berger/Browell to come back, perhaps in overtime. A touchdown by a Buffalo
player other than Thurman Thomas, and Czupryna would tie with the extra point.
Meanwhile in west Raleigh, Bob Wallace was also sweating out Monday night. He
led Jones/Klingman 23-19, but Andre Reed could change that. Would this be the
week that Wallace got a taste of his own Monday night medicine? Would Czupryna,
who has failed to score above the league average in five straight weeks,
lose his second game of the year?

No, Thurman scored, and it was business as usual for the West Division.

Around the league:
What's this? Calvin Jackson benefiting from a trade? Yes, Chip Lohmiller
scored a kicker season high 16 as he beat Outlaw 28-19. The brakes were finally
but on high scoring Tom Best. Brian Ricker whipped him 57-28. For Ricker, the
win opens up a five game divisional lead with six to play. In this league,
spoiler might be spelled B-R-A-T-C-H-E-R. He won his second game 40-32 after a
winless start and Tim Stroupe's playoff hopes are beginning to dim. Put out
an All Points Bulletin for the missing Dick Peil. His default lineup was
crushed by Mike Talbot 30-6.

Dave Bratcher has traded his two top picks Rodney Hampton and Herschel Walker
plus the NY Giants Qbs to Bob Wallace. In return, Bratcher receives ninth round
pick Ernie Jones plus free agents Eric Metcalf and Brett Perriman. An owner is
allowed to trade until elimination from play-off contention or until
intra-divisional play begins again, which ever comes first. These rules are
designed to promote trades that would be fair to both teams. In most
years, these rules would work, but does not this year due to the large
competative unbalance in the Central division.
