KICKERS BEAT THE DOUBLE BYE BLUES
The secret to success this year in the league: Get double digits from your
kicker and you have a reasonable shot at winning. TALBOT's kicker John Carney
has 43 points. He leads all offensive categories and almost has out scored two
BRFL teams. He scored 18 this weekend helped win the "family feud" with
CZUPRYNA 30-14. JONES/KLINGMAN found a kicker in special reserve, Jeff Jaeger
who scored 11 in his win over BRATCHER 29-18. However, a kicker cannot do it
alone; GATES got 16 from Nick Lowery but lost 23-16 to BEST. Best called on
rookie Reggie Brooks and he scored 8 points. Many big yardage numbers were
rolled up by backs in week 3. Perhaps the kickers have had their day and the
backs will start punching it in.
WALLACE beat BERGER/BROWELL 18-5 and in doing so, he became the third winner so
far this season to only score in the teens. The lowest winning score of all of
1992 was 21 points. If 1992 was the good old days, then MONTGOMERY is a
throwback. He is averaging 40 points a game and beat RICKER 49-37. Poor Ricker,
his 37 would have beat everyone but Montgomery. He could be longing for 1992
when he seemed to catch everyone on their off week.
Emmitt is back, but STROUPE rolled out the red carpet a little too soon. Stroupe
benched Derek Lassic, Emmitt's replacement and Lassic scored twice against
Phoenix while Emmitt saw limited action. The result was a 32-32 tie with PEIL.
The "Tie Master" is at it again. In the seasons that Stroupe has been in the
league there has been 9 ties. Stroupe has been seven of those games.
Finally, in a week were John Carney excelled, setting a new NFL record for
field goals, many commentators made references to ART Carney and the Honeymooners.
The league's honeymooner, OUTLAW, must have had a wild time at his wedding.
His team played like it was hungover and lost to JACKSON 33-9. With so many
off his players off this week, perhaps Outlaw invited his team to join him.
