AT LAST, JACKSON IS LUCKY
He'll tell you a million times how unlucky he is: The Warren Moon benching in
the '90 playoffs...How forgetting about Lofton cost him the '92 playoffs..The
Ervins trade. It looked like another chapter in the JACKSON hard luck saga
was written when BERGER/BROWELL's newly acquired Robert Smith found the end
zone Monday night. Then something happened that only happens to guys like
Czupryna: the Vikings Defense returned one for a touchdown and Jackson won
22-18. Now, it can be said that the Vikes running one back against Harbaugh is
a lock TD, sort of like Ricky Proehl, but the fact is Calvin Jackson is
finally lucky.
Memo to TALBOT: Never special reserve Faud Reviez again. He's 0-2 with him in
his line up, legal or not. RICKER held him off 39-33. Talbot's loss allowed
MONTGOMERY to come roaring back into first. He layed a 54-5 licking on JONES/
KLINGMAN - possibly the largest margin of victory in league history. This
probably kills the Sterling Sharpe for Giants Qb deal: Sharpe went in 4 times.
Staying in third place is CZUPRYNA with another ugly win. This time it was 20-16
and the victim was the hot and cold STROUPE.
No one has the big numbers hung on him more frequently than WALLACE, and no one
does it more often to him than BEST - 5 times with more than 50. This time it was
66-45. Green Bay with 4, Rice and Kirby with 2 each. The game was made closer by
the league's first (and second) - 14 point touchdown. Eric Metcalf's two punt
returns coupled with Cleveland's D/ST netted Wallace 28 points.
Make it five in a row for GATES. Irving Fryar's TD pulled it out over PEIL 24-19.
Poor BRATCHER. The tight bye week put him in a bind, and he was unable to stick
Outlaw by picking up both remaining QBs on special reserve. Instead he let
OUTLAW have Tampa Bay and took a Tampa Bay reciever, Ron Hall, for himself. He
Should have taken Horace Copeland instead. Tampa's two TDs to Copeland were the
difference in a 42-33 Outlaw win.
