Week 1 THIS WEEK IN THE BRFL September 8, 1994

A Shootout for the Ages: B/B 59 - CZ 58
1
CZ has to be sick. The word on Brent Jones is that he was to be used sparingly. Week 1 Results
As it turned out, he was the antedote to the B/B scoring feast. CZ knows how Berger-Browell 59 Czupryna 58
no lead is safe with the 49'ers going Monday night. He once won a Super Bowl Jones-Klingman 33 Ricker 20
by getting five TDs on Monday night from them, The 58 points breaks the record Outlaw 69 Jackson 42
set in week 1 1990 by the STROUPE and JACKSON 52-52 tie as the highest non Talbot 61 Montgomery 40
winning total. Brent Jones is the captain of this week's "Splinter Squad". Best 36 Peil 26
Gates 50 Wallace 22
OUTLAW made some league history this weekend: His Cleveland D/ST became the Stroupe 41 Deitrich 33
first in BRFL history to return a kickoff and a punt in the same game. His
Gary Brown scored the first BRFL two point conversion. (The first NFL 2 point Week 2
conversion was scored by Cleveland QBs, Outlaw's backup). And of course, Jerry Berger-Browell vs Montgomery
Rice, became the NFL's all time leading touchdown scorer. JACKSON was the Czupryna vs Jones-Klingman
victim 69-42. Ricker vs Jackson
Outlaw vs Best
Score 40 in this league, you win. Right? Wrong - for the third time. MONTY was Talbot vs Deitrich
on the short end of TALBOTS 61-40 victory. 61 is a franchise record for Talbot. Peil vs Wallace
Player of the week, Dan Marino, threw for five touchdowns. No one did that at Gates vs Stroupe
all last year. Another franchise record was set by GATES in his 50 - 22 win over
WALLACE. Marshall Faulk's 20 points nearly did it alone. 50 points was reached DETROIT AT MINNESOTA 1:00
by 5 teams this week. It only happened 8 times all of last year. BUFFALO AT NEW ENGLAND 1:00
INDIANAPOLIS AT TAMPA BAY 1:00
Six QBs threw at least three touchdown passes this week, but two teams won LOS ANGELES RAMS AT ATLANTA 1:00
without any help from their QBS. STROUPE and BEST both survived Monday MIAMI VS. GREEN BAY AT MILW. 1:00
night challenges to win. STROUPE welcomed DEITRICH into the league by showing PITTSBURGH AT CLEVELAND 1:00
him what Andre Rison can do in winning 40-33. BEST got 20 points from his SAN FRANCISCO AT KANSAS CITY 1:00
"elephant backfield" in beating PEIL 36-25. No one can say that Peil has a CINCINNATI AT SAN DIEGO 4:00
memory like an elephant: Anthony Carter had a hand in beating Best last year. DENVER AT NEW YORK JETS 4:00
This year he sat on Peil's bench with 12 points. SEATTLE AT LOS ANGELES RAIDERS 4:00
HOUSTON AT DALLAS 4:00
And a touch of normacy in this crazy week: JONES/KLINGMAN won their opener 33-20 WASHINGTON AT NEW ORLEANS 4:00
over RICKER. Ricker's Oklahoma State backfield netted 1 point. NEW YORK GIANTS AT ARIZONA 8:00
CHICAGO AT PHILADELPHIA Mon 9:00
