Week 10: Nail Biters All Around in Tense Weekend
Emmitt Smith's 39 yard TD scamper secured BUD the top spot in the regular season after only 10 weeks, but money slots 2-4 are still open. The 12 teams in the middle jockeyed for postion in some tense and heartbreaking games this weekend.BST 42 BR 37 Terry Kirby's 5 yard TD catch was the big play as BST held off the BR rally Sunday night. Any other Miami player catching the pass would have thrown the game to BR. Earlier in that same game, a holding penalty negated a Tony Martin TD that would have changed the outcome.
JK 41 CZ 39 Eric Pegram's three touchdowns allowed JK to slip past CZ in another wild game. JK won despite the 49'er combo notching only a pair of bonus points. CZ has to wonder: He won with 18 last week, but scores 44 and 39 in two other games and loses.
MOS 35 CJ 26 MOS had one of those games where Denver was clicking, and CJ felt the effects of his Barry Sanders trade. Sanders was kept under wraps while Detroit was getting waxed, but CZ's Bill Brooks and Eric Metcalf were scoring. CJ's 3-7 record shakes him out of the pack, and he looks at a likely high seed opponent in week 14.
BUD 39 BAR 25 "BAR none" continues... The afformentioned Emmitt Smith had a walk in the park vs PHI with 14 points. Also tallying 14 for BUD was Curtis Martin. All this without points from a QB. And do we need to mention how great BUD's year is and how miserable BAR's is? No.
STP 33 WAL 30 WAL is dropping like a rock: three straight losses and four of the last five. DAL QB's are spare with their TDs and his recievers have gotten very quiet. STP finds himself alone in second thanks to the efforts of Craig Heyward.
DP 36 GTS 34 DP sits in third place with points to spare. Starting TWO backs for the first time this season, he missed out on 20 points from Brian Blades and Willie Davis. By the way IRVING FRYAR scored for the first time since week 2! GTS continues to be plagued by players in street clothes... Michael Jackson and Fred Barnett didn't play.
OUT 41 TAL 40 This was one of hose games that it took a while to sort out. your regular players score on Monday night, and you didn't start him! It could have been poetic justice that Ricky Watters' 2 yard run was set up by TAL's Calvin Williams, but no. OUT drops to fourth with his third loss in four games and wonders if this will cost him a bye in week 14.
