Parity rules in the BRFL! Six teams ended the regular season tied at
6-7. If Terrell Davis had been catching rather than running TDs Monday night,
there might have been eight 6-7 teams. When the smoke cleared, Outlaw
bounds 7 spots to land in number 6, followed by Peil, CZ, Wallace, Jackson
and Gates.

It is interesting to note that there were no ties in the BRFL this season. It was the first time since 1989. Strange but true: there were ties in the NFL this year. First time since 1989. Sense a corelation? |
Stroupe won Seven of Nine in his trek into the playoffs |
It's a fact. More people choke on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. For that, Jones/Klingman are grateful to have a bye. |
Week 13/14 Results/PreviewIn the interest of time, I will combine the week 13 results and week 14 preview. |

(3)Talbot vs (14)BarryPrevious Result: 97 wk 4 Talbot 74 Barry 27Thanks to Brad Johnson, Talbot was able to overcome a quiet week from rest of his team and post a 38-35 win over Jackson. Talbot seems to have a solid starting five, and may even consider working in Darnay Scott with an injury to Carl Pickens. Barry scored 35 points this week, but fell to CZ. Karim Abdul-Jabbar has been his workhorse with 13 TDS, including three in week 13. On the other hand Ricky Watters has all but disappeared. Many in the league think Talbot has what it takes to win it all. (4) Deitrich vs (13) BestPrevious Result: 97 wk 5 Deitrich 57 Best 35Attrition is nipping at BUD's heels as he backs into a money spot despite two straight defeats. Lawrence Phillips is gone. Leslie Shepard injured and his Baltimore duo has scored 6 points combined in three games. Best's fall from the top this year is so shocking he should be tested for drugs. In the last 10 games, he only won two of them. However, such plunges are expected. Each year after Best appeared in the Super Bowl, the following year, he won only five games. Bud is in the "death spot" as the number 4 seed has lost in the playoffs three out of four times. It could hapeen here too. (5)Stroupe vs (12)RickerPrevious Result: 97 wk 13 Stroupe 41 Ricker 33Save for the nagging Ankle, rib injuries of Terry Glenn, and if his QB recovers from neck injury he got head butting the wall, Stroupe is healthy and dangerous. His Bronco combination of Davis and Defense is his real backbone. To say that this year's Ricker team was slightly better than the last couple years is a left handed compliment. His 95 and 96 teams scored the fewest in the league and made quick exits. As Ernie Banks says, "Let's play two". These guys can save a phone call as their last match up justed ended Midnight Tuesday as Terrell Davis scored three times, keeping Ricker's Elway and Elam at bay. Expect the same result in week 14. Davis, a potential BRFL MVP, should continue to get the bulk of the Denver scoring. (6)Outlaw vs (11)GatesPrevious Result: 97 wk 9 Outlaw 24 Gates 19Collective gasps could be heard while BRFL members viewed the playoff pairings. How did Outlaw get SIXTH place... Simply, he beat who he had to beat. He was 4-1 in tie-breakers. Boomer Esiason's appearance last week dramatically improved his QB situation, but Boomer has a tough assignment at Philly. Heaven's Gates. Don't go putting on the purple shroud and black Nike's just yet...wait until Thursday. At least by then you will know if your Lion's are turkeys. If so, we'll say: "here is your bill, Gates." Famous for his quick exits, Gates will stick aound this time. In fact, the only other time he was a lower seed in week 14, he won! (7)Peil vs (10)JacksonPrevious Result: 97 wk 11 Jackson 21 Peil 19Peil has been living and dying with the Raiders this season. This time of year, the Raiders usually fold their tents. Peil's 8 point output in week 13, the second lowest this year, means the stakes are no longer in the ground. Jackson couldn't resist some lineup tinkering and it cost him in week 13 against Talbot. Now that it is out of his system, he should leave well enough alone in week 14. Give Jackson room to run this week. His backs should have huge days. He finishes the regular season with four starters that he actually drafted. Whether he picked them where he was supposed to draft is another story. (8)Czupryna vz (9)WallacePrevious Result: 97 wk 11 Czupryna 60 Wallace 31CZ meets Wallace for the 12th time. Third time in a playoff setting. CZ seems to be comfortable in the middle, playing the 8/9 game for the third time. He's 5-2 lifetime in his first playoff game. Carl Pickins is out for the year and it looks like slim pickins' on the waiver wire. However expect Wallace will make some moves as he always does at playoff time. It is shame these guys meet so early since they usually both go deep into the playoffs. The prediction here is that we may be writing about the old men, CZ and Moon, for a while into December. |
