3-0 JK Ponders New Rep After Walloping Wallace

Game of the Week

They have never been known as "Wizards of the Waiver Wire", but in the last two weeks JK has picked up two players that helped them to 38 points this week. The Jets QBs (24) and Greg Hill (14) made a believer out of Wallace, who normally has a reputation of a wizard.

19 WAL NYG QB 6, TDavis 1, AReed 6, NKauffman 0, MHollis 6, GB D 0

The win puts JK tied for first in the Central with Outlaw. However, Outlaw has the edge on points. Outlaw and JK are the two remaining undefeated teams. They won't meet until week 11. The win make five of his last six over Wallace.

Bad news is Greg Hill turns out to be a one week wonder. A broken leg will cost him about 8-10 weeks if not the season. Credit JK for starting him and the Jets QBs. Perhaps their reputation is much more along the lines of giving obscure players a start when they have a career week. Ron Moore (4 TDs in the 93 playoffs) and James Stewart (5 TDs) last year.

Now if they can only shake that reputation of not being around come week 16.

Around the rest of the league, the scores were low. The NFC West bye plus a lot of no-names were scoring this week.

What a nice guy Best is: When Peil originally left his line up, he was starting Lamar Smith of New Orleans. Best noted that Smith was off, so Peil inserted Adrian Murrell instead. So it's late in the Sunday night game, Best has 3 point lead, the Cardinals have the game in hand, they are on a clock killing drive with under two minutes to go. Best is semi dozing on the couch and guess who pops free for a score. Murrell! It is the second time in two weeks a Sunday TD cost Best the game.... Future opponents should expect no more helpful advice...

After a record setting two weeks Mosakowski and Hale saw their ship coming in, but on further inspection, it may be the Titanic. The Vikings, with a new man at the helm, proved less effective in week 3 in providing MOS and Hale with waves of points. Backup QB Randall Cunningham threw for only one score, and Robert Smith was "vardelled" by Leroy Hoard.

Depleted Outlaw looked like he was the one taking on water with injuries and bye week, but instead he stays afloat at 3-0 with a XX-XX win thanks to Ed MCaffery's 2 scores.

Jackson took command in the East despite having the lowest point total among the four. The much ballyhood East took it on the chin going 1-3, only Calvin's one point win prevented a shutout.

In a kind of move that usually backfires on him, Calvin sat Kordell Stewart and Pittsburgh, the number 3 overall pick, in favor of Jake Plummer and Arizona. Plummer got a single score, but Stewart was shut out. In a game where every point counted, Warrick Dunn's snaking TD run against the Bears was a Jackson Highlight.

Stroupe fell from the undefeated ranks with the 31-30 loss, but nearly kicked his way past Jackson as Gary Anderson scored 17 points, a BRFL Season high for kickers.

Talbot's "Saturday Night Special" (reserve) QB, Trent Dilfer, gave him 14 points in league leader Steve Young's absence. You can always count on Talbot grabbing a SR QB that scores big. In fact, his first choice when he called Saturday night, was JK's Jets (24 points).

The Old Man probably out rototilling Talbot's yard right now. The "yard king of Apex" went down hard to his son-in-law 49-43. This despite the heroics of Mark Brunell, Jimmy Smith and the New England D. Lawyer Milloy returned and INT for a touchdown one week after Ty Law did it to win CZ his game last week. Who is next for the big play, Perry Mason? Johnnie Cochran?

As Barry dives for sunken treasure in Belize, Deitrich has sunk to the bottom of the BRFL standings as the only 0-3 team. Barry's 37-29 win helps him avoid the cellar in his divison. (He has 1-2 Peil on points). There is no real explanation why Bud has been tapped out this year, other then to mention his both his key postions, QB and kicker are New England players, and they haven't been lighting up the scoreboard. In fact, a TD a week has been going to rookie Robert Edwards, who is property of AB.

Week 4 Preview

September 24
I'm Depressed...
I don't know why I bother... Another 1-5, Thank you Calvin for winning your game. I'm 6-12 for the season for a .333 percentage. Same as my BRFL record.

I understand some of the guys got together for beers last weekend and decided that won-loss record is not a true indicator of BRFL prowess. What matters is Points Per Game, so here is the list of current BRFL players and their ppg since 1992.

  1. 37.8 Best
  2. 37.1 Deitrich (94-)
  3. 35.3 Talbot
  4. 34.4 Barry (95-)
  5. 34.3 Czupryna
  6. 33.8 Wallace
  7. 33.6 Mosakowski-Hale (95-)
  8. 33.5 Jackson
  9. 33.4 Outlaw
  10. 31.8 Jones Klingman
  11. 31.4 Stroupe
  12. 30.8 Peil

I feel better already.

Outlaw (3-0) vs Talbot (1-2)....................................Talbot by 4
No rest for Outlaw here. He takes out high flying Mosakowski and up jumps red-hot Talbot from the losers bracket. Talbot has been on a tear: averaging 55 points in his last two games. Outlaw worked his reverse psychology on Mos last week, accepting the "offer" of a 20 point spot and then lulling him to sleep, 29-23. I don't see him doing it to Talbot. San Francisco is at home to Atlanta. I think Young will have to air it out to get by the Falcons, meaning less opportunity for Hearst. Outlaw's Seattle QBs travel to Pittsburgh, where it will have issues with the defense. The spread says Talbot and it is correct.
Jones-Klingman (3-0) vs Stroupe (2-1)...........................JK by 7 1/2
This years schedule is front-loaded with rivalries. First you have the division games and the some biggies early such as CZ-Talbot and now the nastiest of them all Stroupe - JK. However, JK wasn't too hard on Stroupe in the forum this week. Perhaps he feels sorry for him...

Looking at the match ups, theres nothing to get excited about from Stroupe's side. Tennesee is at Jacksonville and JK has Eddie George. JK has been shopping. He plays QB roulette and selects Baltimore. And somehow they sneak Raymont Harris in the back door. On claim day, Harris should have drawn the same amount of attention as Monica Lewinsky at a cigar bar and somehow 3-0 JK got him.

Stroupe should get his usual 30, but JK might double that

Czupryna (1-2) vs Mosakowski-Hale (2-1)......................MOS by 9
Mosakowski won't find it too easy to rebound against CZ. Despite the 1-2 record, CZ could be one of the league's elite thanks to Jacksonville QBs. He also looks like the team to beat in the east while Wallace drifts without a solid QB and Jackson and Best cope with injuries and tinker with depth.

CZ is Talking Junk in the forum the prediction is he walks the walk.

Jackson (2-1) vs Deitrich (0-3)...........................Jackson by 9
Just when BUD needed to shake out of his slump, his big bye week hits. Bud Loses his QB, kicker and top back all in the same week. He will be going with Atlanta against San Francisco - perhaps some opportunity for some mop up scores.

Jackson, despite the 2-1 start, is not sitting pat as his four moves this week indicate. First off, he has some QB issues. Kordell Stewart and Jake Plummer's disappointing starts are well chronicled in fantasy circles. To remedy, he has picked up St Louis QBs, despite trading away Eddie Kennison. Kennison was shipped to Peil, who had a real gem in Fred Taylor, buried three deep on his depth chart. As he does with Jacksonville, Taylor replaces James Stewart, who is lost for the season. At receiver, Jackson boasts two guys, Randy Moss and Johnnie Morton, who are not the primary receiver on their respective teams, and Jerry Rice, who if trends continue, may not be the primary receiver on the Niners anymore.

Jackson should win, but it will be low and ugly.

Best (1-2) vs Barry (1-2)................................Best by 3 1/2
Barry gets break this week. Although, Elway is Bubby, and rookie sensation Robert Edwards is off. Barry could be a man down and still be better than Best. Best is essentially a three man team, carried by Favre, Stoyo and Keyshawn Johnson, who is on his bye. If Best can win this game, he will need some help from 3 backs - none of whom have ever scored an NFL Touchdown. One of whom is Special Reverse Priest Holmes. Perhaps Best needs some devine help. Or be given his last rites. One or the other.
Wallace (1-2) vs Peil (1-2)..............................Wallace by 10
When do you think Peil spit out his coffee and yelled "Wait a minute!, I have Issac Bruce... Why the hell do I need Eddie Kennison?!"

The AFC East bye week prevents Wallace from unleashing Leon Johnson this week. However, Leon's position isn't QB, and that has been Wallace's achilles heel this season. This week, Terrell Davis should be enough to get him past Peil. That is ... if there is no such thing as the Sports Illustrated cover jinx.
