Week 13 in progressPlease check your scores. I have been wrong a couple times in the past few weeks |
Opps...I goofedAdditionally, there was a mistake in week 11 with JK. He had reserved the New Orleans D, and the SF D, his regular Defense, was still showing up in the sheet with 1 point. The corrected scores is JK 33 Outlaw 32. The stats have been corrected and the correct write-up is posted. 1998 Week 12 Results |
Big Day for Moss, but maybe not MOSRandy Moss had a huge day for Jackson, scoring 25 points. The other beneficary of Moss's production is Mosakowski-Hale. They may not be in such good shape despite all those points. Division leader MOS is in a battle with second second place Talbot. The Minnesota/Dallas game was significant: Ironicly, both teams had players named Cunningham and Smith. The outcome was Talbot's Richie and Emmitt 31, MOS Randall and Robert 27. Robert Smith was injured during the game. Also playing for MOS on turkey day was Tommy Vardell, who didn't score. If MOS was going to overcome Talbot, he would have had to have opened up an early lead. But with Talbot leading, and the BRFL's most productive player, Steve Young, not playing until Monday night, it could be aloha, Mo-ha... In other action, Jackson leads Wallace 25-8 Thanks to Randy Moss' 3 50 plus TDs and bonus points and two point conversion. Wallace counter with Troy Aikman. Thanks to Jason Hanson, Czupryna leads Best 15-0. Best did not lock in Leroy Hoard, who scored 13 in relief of Robert Smith. Best's Viking D did not score. Stroupe, with Cris Carter, Gary Anderson and Dallas D, leads BUD 15-1, who benefited from Michael Irvin's bonus point. Outlaw, with a Herman Moore TD and bonus, leads Peil 7-0. JK and Barry are 0-0, JK not getting anything from Barry Sanders. |

Week 12 In ProgressBest and Talbot clinched playoff spots with shootout wins, while Mo-ha and Calvin are in trouble tonight. And doesn't anyone want to win the Central? JK could join Outlaw at 6-6 on top of that division. A couple of the NFL scores looked like BRFL scores yesterday; however, not many in the league will take adavntage of it. Best sat Bam Morris (18 points) and sent Stoyo (13 points) packing. Radio star Jackson, should he lose tonight, may end up with the "Splinter Squad of a lifetime": Jake Plummers five TDs. |
3000 hits surpassedPlea for default LineupsMissing Weeks RestoredA total of 10 missing weeks from the 1989 - 1991 schedule has been restored. Season standings along with known results from those years were used to determine who won each game. The results are updated in the weekly result and team archive pages. We how have complete records for 1986 and 1989- present. Weekly results are missing from 1987-88. A schedule from 1988 is known. Browser TipsNow that we are late into the season, some of the results on the BRFL and NFL pages are moving off the screen. One tip is to change your default font size for 10 to 8. This can be done in Netscape by clicking on Edit/Preferences/Appearance/Fonts. The new headers that are being placed on old pages allow you to move back to the main page by clicking the BRFL logo in the left hand corner. |
Website records 2500 HitsThe website has recorded it's 2500th hit since the draft. It has recorded 500 hits in 12 days. We are starting to get more noticed. I've applied to a number of internet search engines. Soon searching for "BRFL" will bring us up along with a firefighting tool or a Miami-based Gay society. |
Javascript bug fixedSome browsers were seeing "JAVA SCRIPT ERROR" when displaying the home page. This was due to some addtional stuff that Geocities puts on every page called "Geobranding". I have removed it, and it seemed to clear up the error. |
Site Index IntroducedThere is a new page that is available called the "Site Index". It will be a one page click to all related groups of pages: Old results, drafts, rosters, etc. It replaces the old archive page. Each page will have a link to the main page and the site index page. |
Archive UpdatesThe 96 and 97 results pages have new headers and footers. Remember you can always click back to the main page if you click on the BRFL logo from one of these headers. |
New Netscape for OS/2Attention OS/2 users. Netscape Communicator 4.04 is now available. See more on our website by upgrading from Webex or Netscape 2.02. Version 4.0 - "Merlin" only. |

Point Spreads vs My PredictionsThe point spreads are independant of my predictions. They are calculated using the points scored so far this season. Example: MOS vs DP.

Please Note: Thursday Night GameGreen Bay plays at Detroit. Please "lock in" your starting Lions and Packers. You have until Sunday to choose the remainder of your line-up. Transactions are posted for week 7. Bob: Need your drop for Vanderjagt.. Four AFC West teams are off: Denver, Kansas City, Oakland and Seattle. |
What's this? A Trade? We have our first trade of the year. In fact, it is the first in season trade since Wallace send Deitrich the Jacksonville QBs for Cris Carter in week 11, 1996. Jackson sends Eddie Kennison to Peil for Fred Taylor. The scalpal wasn't even cold on James Stewart... See transactions for other week 4 pick-ups. A correction on the Jones Klingman/Wallace score 52-19. See the week 3 write up and there is a change in the standings. |
September 29
Unless your name is Bud Deitrich, you probably don't have a prayer in picking up Priest Holmes on Tuesday. Holmes scored 14 points this week in a dazzling debut as the Baltimore Ravens featured back Sunday night. Best special reserved and started Holmes. He is upset that his "right of first refusal" rule failed to pass this year. The rule would have let an owner keep a special reserved player without having to go through the claim process. The opponents of the rule claimed that it would disrupt the balance of power by denying weak teams a chance to claim emerging talent. Best shouldn't feel too bad. He claimed Robert Holcombe, who scored 13 points this week. Holcombe was drafted and cut by Bud. Editor's note: I know the claiming process is secret, but (0-4) Bud has already claimed Holmes. You can still claim him in the event Bud changes his mind |

When the League was Young...The early days of the B..R..F..L.. was a time when group of ordinary men played a fierce six on six game. It was a time before Defense and Special Teams, bonus points and when Quarterbacks were known by name. There were teams known as the DeJaneros, Mudflaps and the Frog Level Giants.... Here it is ... Weekly results and write ups from the 1986 Season. Occasionally, my scanners can't read the ancient parchments, so pardon what looks like horrific typos. And the truth.... I don't have anything better to do. |

September 4 The prognosticator is back... More fearless picks and inane statistics to get you ready for the weekend. Here is your inane statistic of the week: The number 2 team has beaten the number 1 team three straight years. That is why Best should beat Wallace in the BRFL equivalent of the Monday night opener. Favre should carve the Lions, and Wallace's Denver duo (Davis and Smith) should have a hard time catching up. Speaking of Packers and Bears, the BRFL's oldest rivalry renews this weekend. Expect the Old Man to roll, but not put up the 80 he layed on Jackson last year. CZ, who may have a juggernaut with the Brunell/Smith combo should make CJ whine about drafting Brunell a year too early. About the only thing that will make Peil happy this weekend is that his beloved Chiefs will stomp the Raiders. However, that translates into bad news from a BRFL perspective as George and Brown get shut down. Although Klingman might find this pick a little Hokie: I'd say that JK is a lock to win now matter which QB they select. O-U-T-L-A-W... The engraver is prepping the BRFL trophy after he cleans it up. What a draft! Next year we will all be reading Mandarin preseason magazines. Slow starting Barry has no chance this week. Mos will hand BUD a tough loss in week 1. Both QBs have a tight game, but edge goes to MOS because the Vikes are at home. Talbot has not lost an opener since 1992, and that trend should continue. Stroupe takes his time on getting his first win ...through his history, his first win does not come until week 3 on the average. |
SR IssuesCalvin noted that the time is off in special reserve claiming and the posts are not getting there immediately.

1998 Schedule Released1998 BRFL Schedule The new division schedule is released. We are following the traditonal 12 team template with modifications. Division games are played weeks 1 and 2 and 11-14. The reason is to make sure that all NFL teams are in action the weeks that we are playing division games. The NFL has scheduled byes weeks 3 - 9. |
BRFL chooses to Return to Division FormatAfter five years in the tournament format, the BRFL has chosen to realign back to divisions. The move coincides with the cut back to 12 owners. The league last had 12 owners and played in a division format in 1992. The rule vote was very close among the 10 owners that voted (Stroupe was not found, Outlaw was in China). At 5:00 Commissioner Calvin Jackson declared the voting closed when neither delinquent owner responded. The winning plan (prop 12) was slightly different than the first division plan proposed. (prop 1). This was a late "compromise plan" suggested by Adam Barry which put 8 teams in the playoff. Prop 1 only had four playoff teams. Most owners felt going from everyone making the playoffs to just 4 was too drastic. The selection of prop 12 did have one sacrifice: the league had intentions of dropping week 17 and moving the championship to week 16. In order to play an orderly regular season and accomodate eight playoff teams, the 16 week idea was scrapped. Vote Breakdown
Rule refinements to be worked outThe money distribution under the adopted realignment plan will be worked out and voted on before or at the draft. The claiming process for prop 5... 12 man roster with special reserve. will also be refined. A huge note of irony...One of the reasons that the division format was scrapped after 1992 was that sometimes the most powerful teams can end up in the same division. In 1992, Wallace, Best, Jackson and Czupryna all played in the West division. They effectively eliminated each other with CZ advancing to the Super Bowl to get crushed by Ricker. That imfamous West division has been reunited! It is not to say that they will be the most powerful teams, but from a historical perspective, those four teams represent 5 championships and twelve Super Bowl appearances. The rest of the league can collectively boast only two champions and three Super Bowl Appearances. |
